Just going through a P-61 archive I collected up about 20+ years ago before I get rid of it, and wanted to find this image. Crappy quality, but thats a pretty unique failure.

Holster appears to be a variant similar to the SA pattern 73 but with an extension to lower it's position on on the belt.

Pistol could be one of these SA service pistols

vZ 27, P-38, or Beretta M92 (1975)
I think it's a P38 based on grip angle. Common in Africa after WW2.

Portuguese used tons of them too. So common one of my nephews was name Walther due to his father's military use in Angola.

Don't forget to put on your acid resistant flight suit before takeoff!

The 340th Bombardment Group lost dozens of planes around March 21-22, 1944 when the mountain went up. They evacuated shortly thereafter, leaving the planes behind. But the Group was reconstituted and back in action in about three weeks or so.

Guns are covers in canvas (top turret, rear) Was the back stab covered in fabric? Destroyed/too much weight? Where's the rear gunner canopy? Lots of ash inside where he sits or lays down?
So many questions???
I guess it was covered in fabric.

All flight surfaces, with the exception of the wing flaps, were lacquered ("doped") and mercerized cotton cloth.
