Picture of the day

I have significant admiration for HRH. She can double-clutch, shoots regularly, and is the class act to top all class acts. If she and Phil ever want to drop by for coffee, they're welcome in my house. Hell, I'll even put on a shirt.

Speaking of women "doing their bit"...

She's adorable.

Is that one of the women "ferry" pilots from WWII, or at least propaganda photo of one? I remember reading about women pilots being used to shuffle aircraft from the factories to Europe so that trained aircrews didn't have to get removed from the line to move aircraft around.

Tough gig. Not technically "combat" flying, but shuffling bombers over the North Atlantic to England took no small amount of skill in the "Grease pen on a plastic covered map and dead reckoning" age of aerial navigation. Brave gals.

I have been to her house a few times. Nice place. Looks like an expensive place to heat, though. No pictures to show for it. You have to surrender cameras on entry.

On the last visit Prince Philip and I discussed shooting. He was concerned that so many shooters have hearing loss.

Cameras - I once thought I would try to sneak a few pictures, so I put a small Leica in my pocket. Then I noticed police on the roof with rifles and binoculars and decided to leave the camera in my pocket.

Switch off and Be Amused

Daaagh! No, She merely switches the hearing aid off.
It's just too bad that her son's not half the man that She's been :)0 |

OK, OK, I'm done wif the royals' jokes now. My next post will be an AFV pic.

4170: First pic is a Panther w/ the long 75--arguably the best tank of WWII. Early teething problems when they were rushed into service to stop those T-34s, then they were too little too late, and out-numbered 5:1 in the west and ~15:1 on the eastern front.
The 2nd pic shows (I thinki) a Soviet T-72 in the foreground; the one behind is a US M-48 gas engine w/ the 90mm gun. We had those in '63, but got the (brand new!) M-60A1s in spring of '64. Finally we had a 105mm that could fire a SABOT round! We thought we were hot spit!
