Picture of the day

And speaking of night fighters...

nice photo of the ME110 but that is not the night fighter version

The night fighter version had the Leichenstein RADAR array in the nose, larger tailplanes, extra exhaust piping to hide exhaust flames and the rear single gun replaced with a
Shrade Musik pair of pilot operated cannon which fired upward into a bombers belly.

'All ashore that's going ashore!'

Yea!! Steer that rig away from the officers' club and rush that stuff to the boys at the front !

Wow, is SHE wearing saddleshoes and bobby sox?? Now that's high fashion! Looks like she knows how to move, too!
Well, one out of three ain't bad, eh? IDK what's still left in the boat, tho.... More to come?

"Fancy gadgets" give you the edge to fight another day.

Gadgets are a distraction. Just fly the plane. For any pilot, the most important thing .... "Speed is life, altitude is life insurance."

But it doesn't hurt to have a few extra 20mm cannon rounds as well ;)

I don't see any cannons on the Spitfire's wings. About to experience some .303 ball. Not that it makes much difference when you're in a cigar tube anyway.

Markings on that Spit are in funny locations - the wing roundels are too far inboard, and the fin flash is a wonky size.

Bundesarchiv photo. I suppose that doesn't clear anything up - could be either staged propaganda or a legit pic, regardless of source...

Nice in-flight study of B-P Defiants on the prowl. Awful concept, reasonably pretty airplane.

The b-p's kinda look like hurricane with a rear ball turret.

Roundel change over the war years and placement was left in the early years to individual squadrons and nationalities. That spit might have been flown by a famous South African during the battle of Briton.

Interesting, all other unit marking and letters have been "censored" off both the mk1 spit and the Dornier 17 aircraft.

Speaking of strange roundel placement:
