There had been a small town of them one time, but after the war, all of it was let go and the jungle took over. From 1914 to 1920 Canada interned 8579 men from the Austro-Hungarian Empire (mostly Ukrainians it turns out) in several camps across the country. Many were Canadian or British citizens. One camp was located near Castle Mountain in Banff National Park from 14 July 1915 to 15 July 1917. Prisoners there were used as labour building parts of the town and park including the Cave and Basin.

There is a small turnout on the Bow Valley Parkway with some information placards, photos and a bronze statue to commemorate these men.

I brought this up to my son when he was describing " white privelage". He's being indoctrinated into become a teacher (music). Ya my fore fathers did their part to earn the so called white privelage while " resting"in a camp in Valcatier.

My Ukrainian parents "Canadians by Choice" (unlike me just being born here), arrived after The Big 'Un, Part Deux.
Being active participants in the Cold War, my extended family had a lot of opportunities with the RCMP and other intelligence services, which was a big switcheroo from the xenophobic paranoia of Austro Hungarian classified Ruthenians arriving earlier.
Me, I did my Cadets, Served Her Majesty, played tourist in the Sinai, Honourably Released, no discrimination by anyone. All Cool.
 
The Stuka is a somewhat awkward looking bird, all right angles and coarse bones, but when Germans put their minds to creating an even more angular and severe looking aircraft, they cannot be stopped.

that Sherman has already been salvaged for parts and had the old ones put back on- look at the volute suspension- earky sherman the second one is from the opposite side, ( ie the return roller goes to the rear) and the third is missing a bogey- the main and idler wheels are missing- in other words an orphan child

also got a later welded hull, with the added side armour and the apliques in front of the hull hatches but a pre-43 turret with the small mantle and no added turret armour
 
I pack Bakers dark chocolate as an iron/emergency ration in my hunting coats. Lots of coco butter for energy and the caffeine boost.
