Picture of the day

That little Fiat is a great looking thing. Very second-gen.

If humanity has ever built anything more elegant than the Lockheed Constellation, I can't think of what it might be.

A flight in a Super Constellation from California to New Zealand took;.

A fill day from California to Hawaii.

A full day from Hawaii to Pango Pango in American Samoa.

A half day, from Pango Pango to Nadi, Suva in Fiji for lunch.

A half day, from Nadi to Christchurch New Zealand for supper.

Unfortunately, engine technology hadn't evolved to fit the plane.

Grizz

I always found B-47 Stratojet and Tu-16 Badger very good looking.F4D Skyray and A-4 Skyhawk (first versions) were incredibly cool too.

For the life of me I can't figure out why people think the Connie is so elegant. To me the body is too long in proportion the the wings and it has funny humps and the nose is too rounded in comparison to the body. Each to their own I guess.

Taste is indeed relative. Not everyone agrees that Sophia Loren is the ultimate beauty either. They're wrong, of course. :)

There isn't a straight line on the Connie. It's all swoops and curvature. It's a lovely thing, just like The Sophia, and I like her proportions. Not seeing the funny humps you mention - are you thinking of her shoulders behind the cockpit?

Gander, in the 50's, was the last stop for planes heading East and the first stop of planes coming West. The major airlines were flying Connies (mostly the G model, with tip tanks) and DC-7s. Air Cananda had North Stars (a DC4 with Merlins).

I could look into the night sky and identify each type by thier exahust patterns.

I would agree...Of coarse another younger beauty (by 8 days) would have to be Brigitte Bardot she is also showing fine lines.:)

There isn't a straight line on this Comet either. It would still hold it's own with modern airliners with it's elegant lines. A lovely thing, just like Brigitte with or without funny humps.

The first jet air liner was the Canadian AVRO Jetliner, I believe. Don't remember why it was a commercial success.
