Picture of the day

More Militracks. It NEVER fails to impress me about how totally uptight and officious some Canadians are when it comes to German wartime vehicles in display or events. Canada was never overrun and brutally occupied as the Netherlands where. Yet 70+ years later they (Holland) have moved on hence this invite only display of German vehicles. This June, wow just next week, I will be participating in the largest convoy of German vehicles in France since 1944 where we will have six Schwimmwagens in the Douve river near Carentan as part of our convoy. Pics to follow.

The same principle applied to the Ferret scout car which we used into the early '70s. The idea was to sneak and peek for information and evade as quickly as possible if engaged. Recce by death is rather unpopular with the crews.
its not very popular with the Infantry either ... but someone has to do it. Here's one vote for the Armoured Corps

Holy hell, mate - that sounds epic. Have fun, make connections. Will you be shopping for a new project? :)

Never enough vehicles. Horse were still needed.

Absolutely amazing. Now I know how it probably looked on the morning of September 1st, 1939.

Yes the Germans used horses, far more then the allies but not at the levels some claim they did and certainly not at the pointy end. What the Germans where huge users of was trains and rail delivery

I recently read a book about the Cavalry of the Wehrmacht. Initially it was comprised of the social elite, at least the Officers. It was used primarily in the recce role and as a quick reaction force. They fought many successful rear guard actions and when unhorsed as infantry.

Supermarine liked seaplanes.

The Walrus...

(also worked spledidly as a hair dryer)

OK; this made my feet tingle. Buddy has one leg draped over the leading edge of the upper wing, messing with the long wire antenna, with the aircraft in a nose up attitude, and his center of gravity past the point of max camber of that nice smooth wing. If everything goes right, he won't roll into the turning propeller.

at least the water is calm, and he has a chase boat to pick up the big pieces.

The Germans lost huge numbers of horses in the final annihilation battles of the Falaise gap in Normandy. Many were victims of air attacks which left intermingled messes of horses, men, vehicles and wagons. Veterans spoke of the sorrowful task of shooting the wounded horses.
