TEMPLARY CRUZ WITH PINK IN THE CENTRE
Above Porta de Almedina, on the nascent side of Castle dos Templar in Tomar, is one of the oldest (if not the oldest) cross templar found in Portugal.
It is a templar cross with a rose in the center, which shows the existing link between the Templars and the ancient Rosa-Cross with roots in the Egyptian Initiative Confrarias.
Another particularity of this cross is that it features a set of grooves, forming in each arm a pyramid, indicating the esoteric bond (because being exoteric would be considered heresy by the powers instituted at the time) between the East and the West, one of the mobile phones of the mission carried out by the Poor Knights of the Militia of Christ.
According to José Hermano Saraiva, this primitive templar cross would have given rise to the five Quinas of the Portuguese Escudo: four of the quinas would represent the existing spaces between the arms of the cross and the fifth would be represented in the central part, where the rose is found.
Above the cross is an inscription ′′ IN:E:M:C:XC:VIII ′′ which according to the late historian must read 1198 of the Age of Caesar, which, subtracting the 38 years, would give 1160 of the Age of Christ, i.e. the year of Tomar Castle Foundation.
