The 30 in M2/AN Browning machine guns used in aircraft were lightened significantly and as such had a lighter mechanism made it faster firing. About 1000-1200 rpm
Late in the bush war the Brownings, for a reason unknown to me, were fitted with full length aluminum barrel jackets. Captured terrorists reported that they were deathly afraid of these 'new' machine guns because of the huge barrel diameter!

That and when somehow terrorists got hold of an army/police radio and they were subsequently captured & interrogated they divulged that they were really afraid of the soldier 'ROGER' as he was everywhere....
