Picture of the day

My heart's pounding in my chest just looking at those poor ba$tards lugging the guns across the river by hand , and from the wake in the water, they're not messin' around either!

OP; btw, I just wanted to say that this has been one of the most enjoyable threads in a long time. Keep up the great work, its appreciated.

Yep; Cheers BTW...Bayo's all happy in gun oil next to the MkIII and scabbard's saddle soaped :D. A fearsome "sticker" when the bayonet is mounted...wife states "what the he11 is that for!?" "I dunno...but I've got 2 of 'em, cool huh?" she rolls her eyes :D

HAHAHAHA!! Ya I get the "eye roll" all the time too!!! :D

True but that's like saying the M4 Sherman was a derivative of the M3 Grant. And you wouldn't call a PzKpfw Mk IVH and a PzKpfw IVD the same yet both are Mark IV tanks.

No to be picky but the Typhoon excelled in ground support because it was a failure as a fighter. The Tempest was a low to mid altitude fighter to engage the Luftwaffe in aerial combat, including having a go at the Me 262 and to to shoot down V1 Flying Bombs. It had to be fast. Yes they look alike and have the same engine in the Tempest Mk V (which is what is pictured; those are drop tanks btw.) but the tailplane is different (as that was a shortcoming causing the Typhoons to crash) and the wings are different. Even the riveting was improved in the Tempest to increase airflow.

Hey my immediate reaction was Typhoon too until I saw the tailplane. Then I looked more closely. Calling a Tempest a Typhoon when its not just leads to confusion.

You guy's are splitting hair and taking the fun out of this whole thread.
Start your own thread to nit pic.
I saw a neat old plane. I don't care what it is,it's just neat that they could build something like this back then and it was because of it and many other's that we have our freedom.
