Korea?
Wherever it is, if they ever come up against another tank they'll be wishing they had festooned the tank with sandbags, logs and anything else that adds extra protection instead of stupid paintwork. What do they think it is, a P40????

Same paintjob anyway. The LdSH actually used the standard US M4A3E8 with Ford V8 engine in Korea. The Shermans which we had in Canada were the M4A2E8s with the twin GN diesel engines. When the 25th Bde initially went to Korea they were equipped with the open topped M10 tank destroyer with a 17pdr gun. These were quickly swapped for the Sherman which was better suited to dealing with enemy infantry by reason of it's closed turret and both coax and hull mounted MGs.

Thing could throw about 17 pounds of high-explosive nastiness in your direction, and do it at .30-06 velocities.

I think anyone making cracks about the paint job would have more pressing things to worry about.

Drache,

Where was that photo of Catherine taken? Thanks - or should I say ...tanks.

(sorry I really need to get more sleep! :p)

Not my photo. The taker states it was taken in Edmonton.

After a little research it is NOT the exact tank. This tank was painted like the one in the photo as a representation.

same tank?

Can't remember if it is the same tank, pretty sure it isn't but the paint job is definetly to replicate that photo.

Catherine is a runner too and having been in it, I can tell you that it has a lot more room than the new Leopards does. Although, the crew commander seat is still pretty cramped.

Thanks Drache - is it still there? I'm visiting Edmonton shortly.

It lives in the "white whale" behind the Strathcona lines on CFB Edmonton. Not accessable to civvies but it does make a few appearances with the Historical Troop which includes a Centurian and Cougar among others (all runners).

Dotted around the fields of Holland, these gliders clustered together formed just a small part of Operation Market Garden in September 1944 - the largest airborne operation ever carried out

US marine with M3 smg, also know as the "Grease Gun", the Grease Gun seems to be as popular as our Sten, either you liked it , or hated it..lol

I don't have a lot of experience with them, but have fired them both. Was surprised how much I liked the grease gun, and how much I hated the Sten. Hopefully the Sten I fired was clapped out a lemon, I would not take it into battle based on my very limited time with it. Hand me a grease gun and its go time!

@Recce 21:

If you think the Crew Commander's seat in a Sherman is cramped,I would advise you to try some time as the Gunner. You barely have room to SWEAT.

Got the T-shirt.
