I picked up a BNIB model 28 from 1957 (i think that's the year). Will post pics tonight guys. Debating if I should shoot it... Crazy it's BNIB, but I tend to shoot my guns
I'd love to get the 27 but I'm getting trigger jobs for 3 pistols I allready own.
Maybe if you look here: http://smith-wessonforum.com/member...88-coke-bottle-stocks-1956-goncalo-alves.html
sure looks like it, now to get an expert to confirm, fyi S&W offered what collectors call coke bottle stocks for about ten years. They first appeared in 1956 on the NEW 44 Magnum and were phased out beginning in 1966. I think S&W was trying to standardize the type of stocks they made and the "standard" target stock introduced in the early 50s was more than adequate, so they dropped the coke bottle style in favor of it.

Also look here:
Not all targets are Cokes but.......all Cokes are targets
Here's a picture of N target stocks on left and N Coke target stocks on the right. The easiest way to confirm Cokes is to look at the LARGER checkered area.
*Note* these grips were made at same time (APPROX 1956 to 1968)

Gorgeous. One of my dream guns is a Model 29 with a barrel just over the legal limit but that 5" looks just about right, actually. Might have to change my mind, haha. Love the look of the massive cylinders on the N-frames.
When you look at them from the rear of the back strap, they have a profile of a coke bottle. Why do they call tem coke bottle grips? I always called them the football grips, due to the football shape indentation on the wooden grip, on the side where the cylinder swings out.

I got a 29-2 with a 8 and 3/8 bbl that im thinking of getting cut down to 5 inches. Im wrestling with the idea.
