Please stop posting your hunting videos.

I did that to a buck a few years ago.
it was looking straight at me.
one shot between the blinkers.....
I was like WTF where my deer go...well kid lets go make sure I never wounded it.
and there it was , droped like a rock ...straight down .
:)

Like it that way

I've done a few like that, including one little buck that stood behind a big tree and was peeking around it.

No. I am going to disagree with you. I agree times have changed but that's because WE have let them change. That has been our attitude for way too long. "Just ignore it and it will get better" or "just hide and they won't notice". Well that has to stop. We can't organize and rally with our rifles no matter how much we disable them. So maybe we should have a national "Hunter orange" day. Have as many people display their support for hunters and law abiding firearm owners as we can. Imagine a sea of blaze orange lol.

You arent going to sway public opinion showing video's of gut shot deer, or deer with legs blown off running off into the forest.

I'll fully admit to hooting and hollering back when I used to nuke crows and starlings at the farm (predator protection) or when shooting gophers. It is fun, it is exciting. For people that have done a big hunt, stalking, days in the bush etc, I fully expect them to hoot and holler and laugh.

If i got a good shot id likely do a bit on a long stalk. But if i wounded or gutshot an animal id likely be more pissed off with myself and likely to be swearing up a storm

I learned a lot from watching some of the videos on youtube. I don't come from a big hunting background and had to teach myself. A bad video shows me what not to do. Out of sight, out of mind is never going to be a long term solution; it will only further influence the idea that Canadians are NOT hunters.

A video of an animal tripping over its own intestines will certainly influence the public's opinion of hunters.

I think you are missing the point of my post. This thread is titled "Stop posting your hunting videos". And I don't think we should stop BUT there are some videos and pictures that shouldn't be posted. That being said there are many that probably SHOULD be posted. We have to stop hiding. A group without a voice is useless. Wear your orange proudly!

And like he said, a gut shot animal tripping over its innards is not a scene we want seen by the anti's.

As i have said a good clean kill video is 1 step forward for us, a video like that is 3 steps back. They hurt us more than a good video helps.

Agreed. A good clean kill proves that hunting is a humane, effective way to harvest game and get organic, 100-mile food and all that poop. A gut-shot suffering critter makes us look cruel and inhumane.

Sorry, but we're discussing this like anti-hunters are gonna just one day see a video of a clean kill and say "Hmmm, guess I was wrong"...anti's are gonna anti...that's what they do. Fact, reason and logic will not get in the way of that. Where we see a clean, humane kill and a bond with nature, they just see violence and death.

I agree that some videos are disturbing and should not be posted (let alone even filmed), but only because they display unethical behaviour and that bothers me. Any worry over what the anti's think is misplaced.

This is not about the anti's. You're right that nothing will change their minds. It's about the fence-sitters.

The anti's dont matter. They will hate us either way. The fence sitters on the other hand who have no real opinion are the ones that matter. They see people getting nice clean kills and they are good. They see someone cheering after a gut shot, or laughing about blowing a deers leg off. And that will drive more people against us.

Are we mistaking "fence sitters" for people who couldn't care less? Cuz that's the vast majority...most of those people will never even see a hunting video. I won't concern myself with them either. The hue and cry we hear against hunting comes from a small vocal minority that even the non-hunters I know regard mostly as fringe activists and loons (and I live in the heart of liberal/NDP ontario).

It's the small percentage of people who are curious about the hunt that we need to focus on...mentoring and nurturing that interest. If someone is interested / curious about hunting, they may be turned off by a callous or gruesome kill, but only if that's all they see. Most probably won't just watch one video...they'll seek out many more. And seeing as the number of hunting licences issued year over year is on the rise, we must be doing something right.

No, I am not missing the point of your post. It would seem though, that there are folks of the "no compromise" mindset who believe that anything and everything should be posted.

This is uncalled for. "No Compromise" never meant anything like posting stupid videos to the 'net and you know it.

Video images are powerful tools that produce strong emotional responses. A good video can do as much to garner support for hunting as a bad video can do harm. The reality TV shows generally show hunting in a positive light, and do us no harm. The true believer on either side of the fence will not be swayed, but the who are open minded will be. Most folks understand that there are people in any human activity that we would be better off without, and sometimes those people post videos that produce knee jerk reactions from folks who might otherwise support hunting. No one should encourage activities which can be viewed as cruelty, the problem here though is perception, where even hunters, or those who claim to be hunters, react negatively to the image of killing an animal where no cruelty is intended or depicted. Too many people, in my opinion, fail to take into account the context of life and death in nature when they brand a video image as cruel. In most cases, a game animal shot by a hunter, dies easier than if taken by a predator, and predator dies easier from a bullet than from an injury, disease, or starvation. If a video can cause an individual to take a step back and think, that is a positive thing.

It being a positive thing depends on your point of view, if it has swayed a fence sitter into the arms of the anti hunting crowed was it positive for us?
