A close friend has recently been accepted to a Canadian police force. Does anyone one know where to find up to date info. on the type of handguns that are issued these days?

Post the name of the dept. Someone on here will 'instantly' be able to tell you what make/models/cals that agency issues to it's members. ;) :p

If your friend has any interest in being a police officer one would think he would at least have a vague idea as to what the dept he is being hired into carries ????????????????

I'm reasonablt possible most forces carry a .40 cal for regular duty officers with the exception of the RCMP, which are still 9mm. ERT units usally get the cool stuff to use...

Which explains why the local range was littered with once fired Speer .45 G.A.P. casings after their last practice session...

There is a Tactical unit in Ontario that has recently transitioned to a Para LDA Hi-Cap, but I am still trying to find out forsure which one it is, I will post it as soon as I know

Not necessarily. We often forget that the "gun part" of being a police officer is a very small part of the job (though of course the first thing that comes to mind on CGN). Also, if a recruit shows a high level of interest in the gun side of things during the recruitment/training phase, a lot of questions might well be asked. I believe the theory is that the police will train you what you need to know about guns. It's the personality traits, decision making, interpersonal skills and general character (things you generally either have or don't) that are most important.

Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg all use the G22. It has a high cap mag. They use Speer Gold Dots I'm told. Whenever I hear of them shooting people here, it really kills them.

Redleg is correct about the OPP, regular officers carry Sig 229, TRU carries Hi-Powers, they just got a new fleet of them 2 years ago, but trials are underway, and there are still smoe P7M13's in service, primarily with the Premiers protection team.
