I see 100 or so votes on the poll, more than 80% do not wish to have an upgraded stock with engraving, kinda too bad. Why go to all the trouble with a special caliber to do a Plain Jane Special Edition? I don't get it? FS

probably because a plain jane No1 is still pretty nice, and if this gun is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ you'd never get anywhere close to filling the order.

***(edit)finally figured it out. I couldn't figure out what all of the 1A, 1S, ect... stood for, now I found it on Rugers site!***

I voted for the 1S medium plain jane with the 24"-26" barrel, simply because the rifle will see more sandbagging than hunting if I get one, but it is a shame the RSI didn't come with a 24"+ barrel or I would have voted for that one. That full wood sure looks nice.

The point is to get as many orders as possible so the style should appeal to the broadest possible number of customers, thus the 1-A is probably the winner. The trouble with custom tweaking is that what appeals to one does not appeal to another.

An SMLE of one version or another is the rifle that comes to mind for most with a soft spot for the .303, and it might be an interesting idea to take some of the elements of our favorite SMLE and have them added to the Ruger, particularly if this rifle could be marketed across the Commonwealth rather than being just a Canadian commemorative. While I don't think a 10 shot mag will work on a #1, consider for a minute the full length RSI version with the half length wood hand guard found on the #5 LE with a straight stock with no pistol grip. Either a tangent rear sight (#1 MK III) or a aperture rear sight and a winged front sight would be an interesting look. A third sling swivel ahead of the trigger guard would work well for a Ching Sling, although most probably wouldn't get it.

Naturally any diversion from a standard product dramatically impacts the price, and the higher the cost the fewer potential customers you could have, but it would be nice if this rifle had more in common with us than simply the cartridge for which its chambered.

I think just by going with the RSI is a fantastic start towards the SMLE, by utilizing the full wood. Unfortunatly it appears to only come with a 20" barrel, which is not enought pipe for us reloaders. I'm assuming we are going with a 1 in 10" twist?

Well the overwhelming votes are in favor of the S then the A. I think given these numbers a new poll should be started with only these two options to reduce the vote splitting and to narrow down the final selection. Again I am in favour of either. :)

And remember folks, Ruger itself said the RSI would be more difficult.

If we have the option for better wood and the better sights on a 1S or 1A then it would be sweet. I don't see the point of going 80% of the way to a real nice gun and put plain walnut on it. If it was $300 more for wood and sights then it should be an easy decision. In my mind. No Engraving needed unless its free. A good custom serial # is a must.

I want an 1S but the poll links 24" and 26". As stated before if it isn't 26" I'm out of this buy. 24" doesn't do it for my needs.

I prefer the 1S, with the 1A as second choice. With the short action length of a single shot, you can have the a longer barrel than a bolt action for a given OAL.

The full-length stock seems a little out of place on a single shot, even though I like the looks of them on bolt actions.

X2 A new poll with only the A and S. The guys in favour of the RSI with its 20" pipe might now support the light sporter with its 22"..... maybe not - thats why we need the new poll. It would also be nice to somehow limit the poll to only the guys actually ordering.
