Perhaps, but he is one of their technical guys so I suspect he knows of what he speaks. He also mentioned guns destined for Canada are dealt with separately from those destined for the US. That said he may have been wrong or misunderstood my description. He was quite clear though the US guns were not marked as I described. He also had an explanation as to why the story was going around that the barrels were different. Both versions of the gun ie M2 and Q5 come with polygonal rifling now. Not sure how they could be much different.

He mentioned the sear on the Match is coated with some material the M2 does not enjoy. He was candid in the fact he didn't think it made any significant difference to the trigger pull.

So was I informed correctly after all? PPQ M2 & Q5 match barrels are exactly the same. Old production barrels were conventional rifling and new ones are polygonal + all new production barrels are now hammer forged for all guns in the PPQ line?

They are all now the same according to Walther USA. If you have a Match and want to think it has a "better" barrel fill your boots. I bought mine because I wanted the Optic Option and the price difference was worth it to me. I intend to buy a ported slide version of the M2 5" because I can and because I want to shoot SSP Division with the platform. I won't shoot any better than I do with my M&P Pro but .....I might.... says the little ego guy on my shoulder. :>). Given Walther's reputation for quality products I would think the M2 5" represents better value IF you do not intend to mount an optic. I guess it just depends what you want.

I would assume so re the barrels, I didn't ask about the hammer forging. What does their marketing literature say? Not much sense making two different barrels for the same design.

It it totally possible they all use the same barrels now. It would make sense the Q5 had a unique barrel at some point though or else it is unlikely it would be marked "Q5".
I wonder if new production Q5's still have the barrel marked as such and if a regular PPQ M2 5" has a mark of any kind on the barrel. It isn't a big deal either way, I bought my Q5 because it looks a little different and for the optic mount. It is always nice to the correct information published though. I can say my barrel does have polygonal rifling.
And I have seen Q5's with and without the Walther Arms molded into the side - I assume the ones without were imported direct from Walther vs coming in from the US.
 
Not sure why you're so hung up with reps from Walther USA. US division of these European companies are often quite disconnected with the head offices and what they do there. The PPQ & the Q5 are made in Ulm, Germany. Lothar-Walther is part of Walther/Umarex and they get the CHF barrels from them. The Walthers in Canada come directly from Germany.

I know this is a bit late for the OP's question but I just got a Q5 a couple of weeks ago and so far it's a beauty. I have put about 800 rounds through it to date and it has broken-in nicely.
No malfunctions, good accuracy, points well, trigger feels as good or better than the 3.5# aftermarket trigger in my Glock 34.
I shot a couple of IPSC matches with it already and I really liked it. Just barely passed the 5# trigger pull test for production division. I think I will stick with it for a while. I will be putting a Leupold Delta Point Pro on it soon and try out the Prod Optics division.

Hey guys,

So is getting the 5" and possibly later having it tapped for a red dot not a viable option when cost is considered?

Aside from feeling more like a staple gun are striker pistol triggers that different? Do they break differently? I have MUCH more experience with hammer guns than striker.
 
Sure you can run with a dovetail mount.

If you are under 40 I would stick with irons myself. I quickly found there is an art to shooting red dots fast and I am not there yet. Over 40 and the eyes play a part in the decision making process.

That's interesting Bob,

My dad has a target 22 with a red dot on it and I find it really helps me to hold at target and get tighter groups. Maybe I have old eyes?

I'm a little bitter about the sights that come on some of these guns. The bare bones dot sights just aren't as great as a good target type in my experience. It has held me back from a few purchases actually as the guns in my price range do't typically come with nice target sights.

Man if I could see well enough to claim it was the gun not me I wold do it. I admire folks who can shoot real tight groups at 20 - 25 yards using irons. The Walthers seem to be able to shoot tight groups out to 25 yards by folks who can shoot. To many report excellent results to dismiss the guns potential accuracy in my view.
