Premium bolt action rilfes above your standard Model 70s, M77's, Rem 700's etc.

I think I'm going to focus on Dakota/PWA rifles, any idea who import PWA rifles into the Canadian market? Never seen one listed.

I'm also still open to any comparable alternatives similar to these examples.

I would look at an aftermarket action and have a rifle built, the action is a personal preference but the barrel is what matters imho, I’ve had around 70 custom and semi custom rifles built and I always end back up using a Defiance action,

Defiance is one of the few companies that truly offers a custom built action, add in a Benchmark or Bartlein Cut rifled barrel……it just doesn’t get any better.

I just recently ordered a couple lightweight Pure Precision SKLTN Actions, similar to a Defiance AnTi but has a 75 degree bolt throw.

My favourite is the Defiance Rebel if your not concerned about weight, It’s an amazing piece of hardware.

Which brands/models would you say are premium bolt action rifles offerings that would slot in above the likes of the Winchester Model 70's, Ruger M77's, Remington 700s, Tikka T3X's etc etc when it comes to fit and finish?

I'd to purchase a real premium bolt gun for an upcoming milestone that's higher quality than those mentioned above but not quite priced like a Rigby Big Game, H&H etc.

What would you say falls within that category?

Sako 85/90? Weatherby Mark V? Park West Arms?

What else?

Heck the ones in the title are premium to me ;)

If you're the type to get bored and eventually sell I'd stick to a factory offering. The factory rifle will usually retain more value. This is coming from a guy with a custom built on a defiance action on the go.

Either one looks at building something similar to those nice higher grade wooden stocked Safari/hunting rifles and ends up with similar performance as in the 40's-50's or one goes modern high end components. I have made myself a Mauser 1909 with carbon fibre stock as an "old meets new" which is a fantastic rifle but also built two ultra modern hunting rifles in all carbon build. For years I was very sceptical about carbon fibre barrels but have changed my mind a bit especially after building a lightweight 300wm that shoots so well. We have shot targets at 1200m as well as deer off-hand at around 100m and deer at over 400m. There is just such a wow factor when handling this rifle. The materials used as well as the balance of the rifle reduce felt recoil even though we use 208gr at 2800fps. I am convinced the carbon barrel as well as carbon stock are responsible for the recoil dampening.

Makes sense, in the world of cycling, carbon is often used for its light weight and dampening properties, such as a front fork on a road racing bike. I used to have a hard tail mountain bike and the whole rear triangle was carbon, really soften the ride.

I find the most enjoyment in the end from quality blue collar guns, ranging from stock to tastefully customized. Have spent my time with the extravagant ones. The 7s as Hoyt puts it well, plus Ruger No.1s, the 98 factory sporting rifles, and some entry level German multi barrel stuff.

Have at the high end stuff, just buy it used. You can always resell it then, long as you’re patient. In the end suspect you’ll find just as I and many others have, a ‘7’ series rifle is more than good enough.

Speaking as a custodian of some of Ralf’s stuff, he does great work. Anticipate real world resale on that being quite brisk, the pre-Covid new car rules apply. Long as you plan to keep it forever, it’s as nice of a .416 as you’ll find at the price new and none of us can say earnestly we wouldn’t enjoy it if the cost didn’t make us think twice.

Might just as well get one of the rifle they built from the ground up... :p
