What do you guys think of the retailer buying up stock from other retailers and then auctioning it off at ridiculous prices and making a ton of money and screwing the shooting community?
I’m finding it a little hard to stomach, In this time of need it takes a shady dude to line his pockets this way,,
I’ll never support them, this won’t last forever,,

In the long run it may not be the best practice. It's not illegal though. Roasting the retailer is one thing. The fact they get away with it is entirely based on people buying items at these inflated prices.
I'd have to be in a pretty desperate way to pay double for anything.

I have seen other practises from dealers on here which are questionable. They basically leave you no other choice as to leave them alone. #####ing and name calling doesn't help. It's not illegal but certainly violates the rules of good taste. Nothing you can do about it.

Kind of sounds like Extreme Range Outfitters.

I don’t really believe in the concept of “gouging” as far as economics goes. On the other hand, buying up everything so you can put it in the auction is BS, gatekeeping people out of shooting sports by making components expensive just to make some money is hurting our sport. Don’t even get me started on instructors charging ridiculous prices for the CFSC.

It's a free market. Nobody asked you to bid.
If there were no people interested, there would be no sale.
I think that the bidders are crazy, but they have their own rationale.

As per Post #11 - it is the BUYERS that sets the price in a market - the seller just has to find that level that there is a BUYER for that product. Is no "rules" - but is the BUYERS that are doing it, not the seller ...

It's called ''good business'' or investing. Buy low, sell high is the only rule.

Why weren't you already prepared for what's happening right now??? Can't blame the astute seller for your neglect.

I've seen and heard all of this before, the only things that change are the names and faces. All of the excuses are the same.

What you're going on about is crying in your milk.

Could have, should have, didn't. There are lots of investors making the same mistakes over and over again every day.

When a person goes into business, they are indeed investors, they aren't in business to lose money.

They have to charge enough for what they're selling to be able to make a profit and replace that stock, which will very likely be at a much higher price. If you can't handle that, time to get out of the game.

Prices are what prices are for lots of reasons, mostly because of dwindling amounts of product available.

Just take a look at fuel prices right now. It all could have been avoided but Charest in Quebec, wouldn't let the Eastern Pipeline go through, same in the west, where the Trans Mountain has been held up for decades.

Now that the Russian exports of Deisel/Gasoline/LNG have been cut off, lo and behold we have a SHORTAGE in supply and prices are going up accordingly.

Nothing different about what's happening with ammunition and components.

SFRC doing auctions , stuff going for 20 to 40 percent over retail plus they get the selling commission as well plus taxes. Varget going for 85 to 100 per pound plus selling commission 15 percent and taxes and shipping. Bricks of 22 ammo selling for way more than you can buy it at Cabellas. People get caught up in the frenzy, but I guess its a free market system. The problem is that stuff wont be on the shelves at a reasonable price if they can get 40 percent more doing auctions.

People are set on the powder they know. They refuse to try something new. Attitudes like that end marriages and cost $$100’s of thousands. Humans are dumb.

I think the return of the gun shows will help to solve this problem to an extent.

Don't hold your breath.

Most of the sellers are pretty astute as far as pricing goes and with the cost of attending a show, such as fuel, restaurants, accomodations having gone way up??????????????????

Just saw a member post an 8Lb of Varget for $800 LMAO, I don't need to shoot if that's the cost these days. I'm more than happy to wait this out.

The thing about ERO is that they sell things on commission also. So there's no saying for sure that they are buying up inventory and reselling it. Some of those auction items are simply commission and they are just providing a service. I've thought about getting rid of some of my excess powder for 3 times what I paid for it.
