Went to IPSC BC Web Page. Found out Match Results was a members only section. Is IPSC BC a secret society or what? If you want to see the sport expand hiding your match results from the public is a strange way to do it IMHO.

IIRC the reason for password portecting match results is to prevent someone finding out you have guns by googling your nam. The cons nowadays have computers in prison and lots of time on their hands...
 
Considering the Nation results are posted I think the effort is redendant. That and I think we worry to much about this kind of thing happening. It can, and likly does but at some time we are going to have to come out of the woodwork and say, "hey we are mainstream".

The chances of it happening are pretty remote IMHO.

The National results are also behind a password...

Like it or not (I personally don't) we are obligated to protect the privavcy of our members...it's a liability issue

well, that's one of the reasons. Another one is that google'ing someone's name is a fairly typical thing to do before hiring someone, and several of the UofT engineering students who used to shoot IPSC stopped, because ipsc was unable to keep their association with shooting off google - and given the competition for entry level jobs, they didn't want to risk losing an employment opportunity because some HR person didn't like guns or anyone who had/used them.

The bottom line is that without this type of protection, IPSC is forcing its members to make their hobby and membership in this organization very public - the choice is (a) don't shoot, or (b) shoot and have everyone with access to the internet know that you shoot.

Most of us don't care so much, to some (like the above example) it is absolutely crucial. That's why I lobbied for so long to have SOME type of protection on results... It's sad that some clubs still just don't get it, and keep posting stuff which gets sucked into Google.

Personally, I'd have no problem with using our ipsc aliases in the results pages, but try getting that through, to everyone...

Liability...we are obligated to protect the privacy of our memebers. We don't have to like it...but we do have to take neccessary steps

There plenty of onfo on the Gov of Canada website regarding the guidelines...

and even if they are open somewhere, doesn't mean we need to copy it everywhere...

Don't we have some CGN rules about posting people's full names here?

I find that some ipsc/gun people seem to believe that anyone and everyone who does shooting should be very foreceful and in-your-face about - almost to the level of the ### pride parade: I have guns, lots of guns, and if you don't like it, #### YOU!!!!!!!!!!

If that's how you look at it, great, power to you... Don't force me to be the same way...

I find it remarkable that we have reached the point in this country where gun ownership has to be a closeted activity. Hell the ###s have come out of the closet and I didn't realize gun owners were in one!

As Quigley posted, you are the one who posted the full names.

In some people's opinion, names should only be published behind passwords. in your opinion, they should be published openly. So you publish them openly.

That's awfully Liberal of you, mate, forcing everyone to conform to your opinion of what is proper.

Sadly, we live in a country where all it takes is for your neighbor/ex wife/complete stranger to ACCUSE you of uttering a threat, and because you are a gun owner and especially a handgun owner, your life immediately turns to crap. It doesn't even have to be true. There is nothing you can do but defend yourself in court, and if you are successful and win your case, you are likely financially ruined anyway. I just don't want to deal with that kind of exposure if I don't have to.

Yes it sucks, but being in your face does tend to get people's backs up. Paranoia rules.

I personally don't like the fact that we have to do it...but my own opinion does not dictate what we are obligated to provide to our members...and privacy is a big issue...

Give your head a shake all I did was copy them off IPSC website when members of this forum were asking about the results. IPSC had them up before IPSC Canada. WTF with the "liberal of you" talk. How did IPSC get the results for both the Nationals and the BC Provincials. I asked a simple question and got back a bunch of nonsense about secrecy when the results were posts for all the world to see on the IPSC site.

Being paronoid is ok I guess if you think the whole world is against you.

Wow. You're awesome. Somebody you really think is cool must have once said that "give your head a shake" thing, because you use it way too much.

Pretending my point is irrational does not actually invalidate it, you know.
 
Guy's anybody who has shoot a ICS stage has his name in full on the web, I'm not against protecting names....but we even protect them between ourself.........a bit overkill between sections.
