A5. Crossbows that can be aimed and fired with one hand and crossbows with an overall length of 500 mm or less are prohibited. You cannot lawfully possess or acquire a prohibited crossbow.
You do not need a valid licence or registration certificate to possess any other type of bow, including a crossbow that is longer than 500 mm and that requires the use of both hands. Criminal Code provisions making it an offence to acquire a crossbow without a valid licence were never brought into force.

I have one that is all legit and legal and can be aimed and fired with one hand,I can fire my sks with one hand so not sure what thats about..they probly meant something more along the size of a pistol..500mm is shortest allowed, shorter = prohibited..
The most important part of the law is the "and". In "law speak" both must be in place for the law to apply. So techinically if you designed a crossbow less than 500mm and was impossible to fire with one hand it would be legal. All crossbows over 500mm are perfectly legal to be able to fire with one hand. But a crossbow that is less then 500mm and can be fired with one hand, you got problems.

7. A crossbow or similar device that
(a) is designed or altered to be aimed and fired by the action of one hand, whether or not it has been redesigned or subsequently altered to be aimed and fired by the action of both hands; or
(b) has a length not exceeding 500 mm.
Except the law as it is written says "or" not "and"
Ok that makes sense now. So pistol grip crossbows ARE legal in canada, if over 500mm. I understand now
Well yes still true, but as the law is actually written (see above posts), that is because they are over 500mm and "designed" to be fired with two hands. Where the law explicitly says the opposite is not legal, you can't take a crossbow "designed" to be fired with one hand and put something on it so it can be fired with two.
The original design intent (aim and fired with one hand or two hands) and overall length are the determining factors.
Of course I'm taking what rusty posted as the law, I again haven't looked it up - #### me why do I post anymore...
Rusty can you post a direct link so this thread is more useful for those who search on the subject in the future. Thanks.
I think someone should contact the RCMP and get the law straight
Sir-I believe if you go back several pages-John has already stated that they ARE approved..
It has about 30 lbs draw weight, but I would not try taking out anything bigger than a Raccoon or a Cat with it.I don't know anything about crossbows, but for 45 dollars can I shoot anything with this?
