Last time I questioned North Sylva on anything, I was pinked. They promote everything they import with fancy pictures of movie stars - but they DO NOT stand behind anything they bring in. You ask a question, they delete it and show another picture of an Eotech with Will Smith.......

Having NEWBIE issues with posting! This post was intended to reply to a post by Claven 2!

That's not good news for me! Is there a way to tell if I have a decent receiver? I bought mine around 2016, but don't know who the importer was. I've never fired it. Took it out a month ago, cocked it, and the op-rod guide came unhooked. Came on the forum to see if this is a common issue, and discovered there's more to worry about. I do have a "MIM" bolt, so considering trying to get a Springfield, or USGI replacement, if THAT'S even possible at this point! But if the receiver is "####e", am I better off writing it off? From what I've gleaned from the forum, serial # won't tell me when the thing was made, SO,Any advice?

This thread is kind of moot now, isn't it? I mean, there's some long-term reputational issues here for a few of the players, but the M305 is now prohib.

Sad. It was the first gun I ever bought after getting my PAL.

Nothing's over until it's over. We've beaten them before, we can do it again.

Other than the registry and the off again, on again, off again, on again CZ858 - how have we exactly beaten them?

Not trying to be an A$$ - just trying to figure out if I slept through a couple of decades :)

In 1977 Trudeau Sr. put the AR-15 on the Restricted list by OIC, in 1979 he was forced to remove it by means of an amendment to that OIC. In the decades since, the AR-15 has only skyrocketed in popularity, and the other guns we love, such as the M-14 platforms, have ridden the coattails of that popularity.

Here are some advantages we have today over 1979:
- Social media and online alternative media give us a public voice we've never had before.
- The mainstream media, though largely bought and paid for by the LPC, no longer hold a monopoly on how people get informed.
- Rapid mass communication helps us organize much more effectively and quickly than ever before.
- Our eyes are wide open, we've already seen what they want to do and how they'll try to do it, so we know how hard we have to fight.
- "desktop manufacturing" with things like 3d printers and 5-axis computerized milling machines that can run on a coffee table if necessary, are quickly making the whole concept of banning objects of any kind obsolete. More importantly, everyday people understand this.

We've got a fighting chance, as long as we don't give up.

The M14 didnt ride the coat tails of the AR15.. it is because it's a good historical design, and most are made in China and sells for 500.dollars not 1500 to 3500 like a Garand or a Springfield with huge parts availability.

Not so.

The blues ones ended in 2004 or 2005. Marstar brought good ones in for another 5 years after that, they were parkerized and many were marked for US imports that were cancelled in 1994. They stopped offering decent guns in 2010 or 2011, and after that things went downhill rapidly.

Decent receivers were still used until about 2014 on some guns.

Now everything is sh!t.

So how does one tell if he has a sh!t. receiver? I know mine has a MIM bolt, and I would buy the Israeli parts kit(if I still can), but if the receiver is no good, there's no point throwing good money after bad! My serial # begins 2013****-13-356 CN 13 CA . Dunno if this is a serial, or import coding numbers. Would hate to turn a brand new rifle into a paperweight!

What difference does it make, considering that the rifle is now prohibited and cannot be used? Wouldn't that be throwing good money after bad?

Your receiver is forged.

Edit:

If your bolt is cast, it’s the first 2013 built rifle I have heard of with a cast bolt.....

I have a 2013 marked receiver as well. It's forged. How do you know your bolt is MIM?

As well, do understand that M14 parts are not always "drop-in". They often need fitting by someone experienced with them

well, i happened to find this thread a day or so after i got my norinco socom from an online vendor (one of the businesses on this site). for sure it is an injection molded bolt. when i found out i asked if they were willing to take the rifle back, or send me a forged bolt. i was told, in no specific order:

there are over 10,000 of these rifles out there and only 3 or 4 bolts have failed. (but not over 10,000 with molded bolts.)
the ones that have failed are due to modifications or out-of-spec ammunition. they know because they know the warranty guy.
all sales are final.
they can't replace the bolt because the bolt that came with the rifle hasn't failed.
i only have 7 days to return a defective item. (ie, the bolt has 7 days to break or they won't fix it.)
if i want springfield quality then buy a springfield. (springfield tried molded bolts and ended up recalling them.)
it would be illegal to ship the gun back to them at this point.
what do i care, i can't shoot it anyways.
i just want to return it because it is banned now. (for the record, i'm allowed to hunt with this rifle for another two years.)

perhaps i'm wrong, but i get the feeling this guy isn't going to help me out.

wow, I am trying not to be critical of our cgn vendors but this claim really rubs me wrong because it is straight up bullsh!t
from your post above ->"the ones that have failed are due to modifications or out-of-spec ammunition. they know because they know the warranty guy.
all sales are final."

whatever store told you that is full of it and should be publicly shamed off of CGN
Virtually anyone who owns these rifles or any business entity that sells these rifles have seen this thread if they are on cgn so dealers have zero excuse for lying right to your face after taking your money. pathetic and morally deprived in my books..... selling these rifles that have obvious defects that warrant a widespread recall from the date they switched to the new cast components.
