Is it my imagination, or has the market for Pythons cooled off? It appears that as prices began to climb, more & more Pythons showed up for sale. But now it looks like sales have cooled and prices have peaked.
These revolvers are not really rare as Colt made over 500,000 before production ended in 2005.

I'm seeing a market peak. How about you?

Not really......one just went up in EE for 4000$ and I'm sure it will sell

Me personally i wouldn't never pay over 1500$ for one......this market is for the serios colt aficionado

Colt is supposed to be doing another run of revolvers in the next couple years.....we will see the quality and popularity of these when they hit the market

The prices you see on original colts will never drop....just my 2 cents

I tend to agree with JP (Caramel ) here. I mean I understand that Pythons are exceptional revolvers, but not 4K Worth for me. I would rather pay double for a Korth. But that is just my opinion...

...Gilbert; you've mentioned Korth for months now. As a friend; I'm telling you, you're bit! Start saving, you know you'll buy one. :p

If colt were a intelligent business they would Run a collectors edition Walking dead Rick Grimes model licenced to print money. Why are gun companies slow to pick up on the obvious?

Plinker 777, I guess you're right. The problem is: every time I start saving for a Korth: a new gun comes along...

I think that Colt has probably very quickly run the numbers on the amount of investment and hand work it would take to build a Python to its former standards and quickly realized nobody will pay $10k for a Rick Grimes Python...

He isn't even aiming when he shoots, how professional is that... An assault trombone would be more suitable in this case.

I paid around $400 for my Python 30+ years ago, at the time the S&W 44 Magnum was book priced at the same level as a Python, but because of the "Dirty Harry" movies they were running about $200 more than the Colt. Now because of that "Walking Dead" TV show the Python has gone out of sight. Before the "Walking Dead" a 6 inch blued Python was going for $1200 to $1400.

Exactly, the firearms industry supplied the demand for a pistol after the "Dirty Harry" series, today the industry no longer supplies to those demands. Why is that? A Python is just metal, its an opportunity for money to be made and materials to be made in America or by license. Modern milling techniques could throw out these pistols in reasonable numbers to meet a 2000-3000 price point. They would sell many many pistols, or at least they may have. The walking dead popularity may fade in the next few years but had they launched this gun 3-4 years ago they would have had a likely longer sales cycle.

Still, how many Katana's have been sold due to TWD.... Crossbows....Steyr AUG A1....http://walkingdead.wikia.com/wiki/Firearms_and_Explosive_Weapons....So many of those arms are currently for sale or newly launched firearms.....lets put the near free marketing to use Colt....

With all due respect, my query was not about Rick Grimes & the need for new enlightened writers for the show.

Just because Pythons are listed for sale on the EE for outrageous prices doesn't mean they sell. Just look at the # of pages for rifles & pistols. Most of those guns are still for sale or sellers have given up.
My hunch is that the Python market has peaked, selling prices have peaked and that the market for Pythons is cooling off.

Could be political as well.

I'd never gamble that kind of money on a gun while we have a pack of commies in office and no property rights.

12.x guys know just how much the value of their collections are dropping.

Did you even read MauserMike's reply? The Python requires extensive hand fitting and finishing, and all the skilled craftsmen who made them have long since retired. It would cost thousands each to produce and probably take years just to set up.
