It's as easy to put on a shell catcher as it is to step back a foot or two.

And a shell catcher eliminates the problem, stepping back a foot, may not, as the hulls will eject to a different location o a hard right target, as they will with a hard left target.

I'm just wondering what the retained energy and expansion of an ejected hull is, it must be devastating.

It seems to be, when someone catches the hulls/cases and returns them as the person whose gun ejected them is preparing to shoot. Oddly enough, that person often gets upset at the person tossing them back to him. Why would someone returning his hulls/cases be offensive, when ejecting them off of the person is not?

So in other words it is a bunch of spoiled snow flake type.First it's a shell catcher, then a baffle for noise and objects , then , well, you get my point.

I could see sitting at the bench where you can't move and are in a fixed position but this seems a little excessive, neither side wanting to accommodate, it is a shooting sport not bonsai tree growing.Hope they don't get dirt on their loafers when making their way to the shooting lane.

But what do I know, I'm from Saskatchewan. :)

Obviously not. You know there are some who take trap competition seriously, right? Just like guys on the bench, or golfing, or whatever other sport they're into. Is is so hard to follow rules of the game?

Maybe they want to BAN semi-auto's at competition.Probably be all cheers.

It is true, gun owners really are their own worst enemies.

Would it be so hard to position the guy with a semi facing where there is no other shooter?

Don’t the majority of competitors use O/U ?

Competitive guys, yes. Your average day at the club will see lots of pumps, semi-autos and side by sides. The post was about semi autos ejecting shells into the shooter beside. Don't even need a cheap catcher. An elastic band around the action covering the port will stop the shell from ejecting far. It's also easier to clean up after if the shell is caught and put into the bucket after being shot.

Then my solution is quite easy, if they are taking trap seriously , as that is what we are talking about.

As for your average day at the club, take a step or two out of the way and carry on.

Or just follow the rules of the game.

Everyone is there for different reasons, but shooting on the same line. Some guys are practicing for ATA shoots. Others are there for fun. They still follow the rules of the game.

The solution is simple, a shell catcher completely eliminates the problem. In fact a simple elastic band often works, Suggesting that the person being struck by hulls move, would be like telling someone to move because their neighbor plays their music to the max all night every night, when the problem is the person playing the music too loud. It would be like telling someone to build a fence, because the neighbors dog keeps coming over and crapping in their yard. The person creating the issue needs to resolve the issue, not the people being affected.

It's quite obvious that there are several commenting on this that have never actually shot a few rounds of trap on a trap range themselves.
Except when the shooter is on station 5 there will always be someone to his right.
The shooter changes body angle as he adjusts to the different stations, the fired hulls do the same.
This is a group sport, normally requiring five cooperating participants shooting in rotation. Not everyone blasting away when they want, as much as they want.
You are playing someone else's game using their court and their expensive equipment ( machines) , have the courtesy to play by their rules or go find your own playground. A trap range is not the same as a general riflebor pistol range.
The facility was built, bought and paid for and maintained by the participating members ( or owners if a private range) for the enjoyment of like minded shooters who are generally polite and respectful to all shooters. For the few that can't cooperate with others or won't respect others right to enjoy their sport, I would suggest you do your shooting on your own property or far back in the bush where you can blast away all you like and not have to put up with all those grumpy farts at the range. And clean up your mess before you leave.

Well, this thread has gone well beyond it's expiry date. If anybody feels differently, feel free to take it up with me via PM.

It's spring time, and I would recommend that everybody spend less time behind the keyboard and more time out shooting.

Brad.
