Some simple questions:
1: What was it
2: What was wrong with it
3: Who sold it to you
(Maybe he'll sell it at a reduced price to someone as a rebuild project if it's as fubar'd as you say it is)
PM me with the dealers name if you don't want to post it here
1) Para Ordinance P14-45 Limited
2) Occasionally Hammer Follows Slide when racking or using the slide release when loading. So it needs Trigger group work or replacement
3) Chamber smaller than spec or much larger than spec, loaded rounds jam and will not allow unloading, happens every 5 rounds or so. Mute point bc the feed ramp needs reworking and might have a micro fracture or flaw. Either way the barrel needs to be changed so that’s a mute point.
Only 1 of the 4 mags supplied was serviceable. Other had their springs cut too short.
I did make up a very soft lead bullet to see why it was jamming and it was a feed path thing.
The chamber was heading spacing properly so I’m leaning towards it being smaller than spec.
Lastly a less than spectacular addition of a mag well, while cutting back the grip.
4) Too heavy for IDPA as is.
To use this gun in IDPA it needed to be lightened and two mags replaced.
To be service able and safe on a range:
New barrel with feed ramp
New trigger and sear (safety problem) installed and fitted by a qualified gun smith.
I figure about $600 parts and labour to get this gun back in the game. Add that to purchase price of $950 you get $1550.
Fixed up this gun is not a $1500 dollar gun, new modern version it is $1500.
You can get the basic version of this gun for $650 nib with 2 mags
I’m not going to put a price on it bc it has zero value to me.
The shop has the right to sell it at what ever price but they have the moral obligation to be up front and inform the buyer.
The only way you would have picked up on these problems was to put a box of ammo through it even loading it you might have clued in.
People sell their problems all the time the gun shop got caught in the middle.
That’s why we have consumer laws.
I had reasonable expectations, the gun was not marked or sold “as is”, these expectations where not met.
Be able to shoot mid grade store bought ball ammo safely repetitively.
In cold weather it would not shoot more than 3 or 5 rounds without a stoppage using 4 types of store bought ammo. Also it was near impossible to rack to unload sometimes; no way a lightweight could have unload it. (Jammed solid whether the casing had jumped into the throat or the chamber was too small bc none of the ammo was out of spec. I checked with Lyman and Dillon 45acp gauge and the ammo fell out. New barrel would solve this and the feed problem.
Anyway I don’t think there is anything to add it’s a close case.
The shop did what was right and I see no need to name names.
He's a gun smith and can rebuild it if he wishes.
The other down side is I bought another for parts and accessories, but I know of a young lad who wants to dress his Para up, so I pass that gun on to him for what I paid.
But that's it no more used guns for me.
Cheers
