You base your opinion on what you' "hear"...?
You're listening to the wrong people...
I've been a member of BRRC for about ten years... 'It's a fine club.
If you're too lazy to visit the club a few times before getting signed off so to speak you probably will find something to complain about no matter what club you join
I've also been a member of Silverdale... It has its negative quirks too.
It's nothing to do with being lazy, the hoops you have to jump through are a fricken joke, they scare people away from our sport. After taking the safety course, and paying your membership, you must attend the 6 observation nights where you get exposed to 6 types of shooting you may not be interested in, and won't learn anything not covered in the safety course. Nothing like driving 45 minutes to watch people shoot their 22. You can't even file for full membership until you've done all 6 nights. At that point there is a rule that states the club must make your application sit for 28 days before your name can be read into the minutes, then, at the next meeting after 28 days (could be 2 months from your last observation date) they read your name into the minutes and mail you your application. Easy enough? Not really, During that period of upto 2 months, you are not allowed to shoot at the range, even though you have payed your fees and taken the safety course and passed the test. Once you finally get your membership, you then have to arrange for Tony to get you an ATT. I got my full membership 6 weeks ago and am still waiting for my ATT. Then, after months of waiting, you finally get your full privilidges and ATT, you can't shoot Saturday mornings or weeknights until 11pm.
Don't even get me started on the attitude you get from some of the directors, I've honestly never seen anything like BRRC. If another club opened up across the street, BRRC would be out of business.
One more thing (if you think that's possible) BRRC will be closed for at least 2 months this summer (probably 4) for renovations.
Silverdale is great, friendly helpful staff, they get your ATT for you quick. But, it's outdoors and an hour further.
