R22 Problems? Anyone else suffering?

I researched the real G3 stock for Canada and apparently we are not allowed to buy this item as it is considered prohib, so we either have to try to deal with the cheap stock (try to make it more solid) on the R22 or wait for Rhineland to produce something better.

You can still import most parts for prohibited guns. It may require an IIC and supporting docs but it's not a huge problem.

Sure, importing an auto sear or sub 106 pistol barrel isn't going to fly, but ordering in a replacement part for your prohib, or a part that can be used for multiple guns isn't a problem.

not sure if its been mentioned on here but on AR15.com some have mentioned they have filled there stocks with some sort of foam from a can non or very slight expanding stuff.

Matt
I did it using medium expansion stuff with excellent results.
Use extension on the plastic pipe to reach the bottom of the stock. Work in short bursts and watch how it expands. I clamped the stock just in case but I don't think it is necessary with medium expansion foam.

How do you feel it improved the stock?
Made it feel more solid?

Once I get my rifle running reliable I'll try that. No modification till it goes bang.

I feel the R22 is like one of trophy girlfriends. Good to look at and hold and people will complement you, but theres not much going on inside :(

"ordering in a replacement part for your prohib" that may be fine if you have a prohib, but according to a knowledgable gunsmith that knows quite a bit about this, I was advised that if I do not have any prohibs then I and most of us are not able to buy any genuine part from an existing prohib ie: HK G3 or MP5 even if it is only a stock ... I know it sounds ridiculous, but apparently that is how it is.

People have tried this and now the parts are sitting at Customs as parts of a prohibited firearm.

What brand of foam are you guys using to fill the stock with, and does the foam come with an attachment to reach to the bottom of the stock or is this something I will need to purchase as well?

the part is not for a prohibited rifle anyomore..... the R22 is a non restricted rifle, therefore all you have to do is show them thats what the parts are for.

The "stuff" is available at Home Depot and comes in 3 varieties: maximum , medium and minimum expansion. I used medium but I guess minimum will be even denser after setting. One small can (medium expansion) will most likely fill 3 or more stocks. The attached plastic pipe is not long enough to reach the bottom and YOU HAVE to reach the bottom to fill it completely as the stuff is very sticky and will glue itself immediately to the walls of the stock.

From CBSA memo D-19-13-2

21. All components or parts designed exclusively for use in the manufacture of or assembly into an automatic firearm are considered to be prohibited goods for the purpose of tariff item 9898.00.00. The components and parts may be imported, but only under certain conditions (e.g., with a prohibited weapons licence).

22. Customs officers must first ensure that the components or parts in question are designed exclusively for use in the manufacture of, or assembly into, an automatic firearm. In some instances, the parts may be used on a firearm other than an automatic firearm, and may be released if all other requirements are met. Customs officers should make use of all available expertise to make this decision. The Regional Firearms Liaison Officer may be able to advise whether the person or business is entitled to import such items.

In the case of the G3 stock, it also fits the H&K 91, which is also prohibited, but not automatic so item 21 goes bye-bye and clears up item 22.

Don't use the minimum stuff as it's latex based and never goes hard, it stays flexible with the constance as soft marshmallow.

There seems to be a sudden lack of activity in this forum. Does this mean everyone has fine tunes their rifle or we are all waiting for parts?
I'm waiting for parts

I'm waiting for parts

I am still waiting.

As soon as I get that part, I will test it out. As of now, I have not even bothered looking at my R22, it just sits in the safe.

I was at the 'Edge today, and it appears there are other owners having the light stike problems who have not come forward on the forum. I am glad to hear it is not an isolated problem, and hopefully will be fixed soon.

To all,

My silence is not an idication of me not giving a damn... We anticipated issues, but honestly, not to this extent.

On the positive side, Rhineland is serious about making things right. We were told taht the Gen 2 rifles were "good-to-go" otherwise we would not have spent our time sorting our the import.

Alos, I am sourcing a supply of G3 / HK91 standard and collapsable stocks that we can have available for the R22. I'll keep you guys posted.

I appreciate your candid comments and your commitment to getting this sorted out... Felix, come and talk to me.

may intrest you lot to know that a new stock should be appearing on the 5th of December according to Rhinearms website - Para stock - guess ive seen on the forums is this is the MP5 stock for it. guess we will have to wait and see though

Matt

Any idea when the new bolts will be available ?
I am having the high/light strike problem as well
Rhineland has been good about discussing the problems and I have worked through all of their suggestions but still having problems, they are appearantly sending me some parts, I wonder how long they'll take to get here?
Step by step I guess
PS As long as we can get the damn thing to shoot put me down for one of those stocks!!

from what ive read and what been mentioned by Rhineland arms they are making there own bolt now as there are no longer 10/22 bolts on the market. thought it seems they plan to always use the Ruger type recoil spring.

So my guess would be the next batch which comes out will have them.

the best be for info is AR15.com (where i get most of mine (including the above)

Matt
