sean: how high can your rail be mounted ? i asked bcos this mount is rather low (no problem with others) so to compensate , to clear the top cover your rail has to be mounted 3-4 mm higher than in your pic, could your rail be mounted higher than the lightening cut ?

Manganese phosphate is parkerizing. I'm not sure what you mean by it being different from "regular parkerizing"?

Yes you're right, my bad. I talked to production today and "There are no major differences in what they do except the process involves boiling it in a hot alkaline bath and then a hot acid bath. This is to ensure there are no possible contaminates on the base metal. So essentially it is just Parking with a better chance of consistent results"

KASAT had a pretty smart mount designed that accomplished the same thing cheaper with no need to drill. Just so everyone's eyes are open.

Yep Kasat makes a rail that is quite nice in its own right. The reason we wanted to make this piece is four fold. If you you're gonna mount a rail on your rifle you:
a. want it to be as secure as possible. drilling is the only way.
b. want to have multiple repeatable mounting points for eye relief.
c. want to keep the weight down as much as possible.
d. want to save your scopes with a shell deflector that is independant of the optic itself. So a user can slide on any optic they want with confidence and shoot.

Our rail is mounted low to accomidate the rest of the russian optics as best as possible. The mount you pointed out is too low with our disign but if you get it with the AK mount it will work. Either way you will need to remove it every time you clean. Like I said we have a design that would be specificly for the VZ58 but it won't be ready for at least a few months. There is so much in the que right now.

There is no tapping involved only drilling.

The standard AK rail will put the optic too high for comfortable cheak weld and to far back for use with magnified optics, I know I tried. The SVD rail is too far back. Both will do nothing to stop the shells from pounding on the scope. Trying those rails is what made me come up with this design.

The rails are made of steel.

I Changed the first post to better explain the rail and its function all in one post. I'll update it with the answers to your questions as best i can.

Thanks Deck!

For all interested buyers we are currently making a list of customers who would like to get one of the first batch of rails. If you want us to put your name next to one please send me an email at sean@rauchtactical.com.

For those who have PMed me about this please do me the favor of sending an email. I honestly have had almost 2000 PMs in my in box and had to clean house. I will always answer PMs but to get your name in please send me the email.

Thanks all!

For all those who have emailed me about the rails I'm going to answer your questions here in the first post as much as I can so that everyone gets the benefit of the answers. Also I will contact your directly via email when they are ready for payment/shipping.

so is it just the rail for $125, or does that include the side mount as well?
also, how would a guy mount a scope with a 30mm tube to this?
thanks

The $125 is for the rail, shell deflector and hardware. I'm gonna leave the mounts up to you. There are at least two 30mm mounts, one I know for sure will work at its the same as the one you see in the pictures above except in 30mm:

There is another mount that comes with 30mm rings. If you are willing to wait a week or so till they get here I'm gonna test out this mount and rings:

They can be baught seperately from eastwave by request.

A quick update:

Some of you have been emailing me asking when the mounts will be ready to ship so its obvious that I owe all you CGNers an explanation.

We outsourced the fabrication of the shell deflectors to hopefully save on some time in getting the mounts out to all you who have stuck with us through the development process. This proved to be a bit of a mistake as the company we used to make the deflectors is taking forever to get these parts done. This is holding us up on an array of products because we do our hardening/coating in batches. We're expecting to have the deflectors done this week and the parts ready to ship soon afterwords.

Sorry for the delay and thanks for your continued interest.

Looks like a great mounting system. I particularly like that the scope is mounted in the proper place.
The only problem that I can see with this is that it will be a pain in the ass if asked by someone in authority to show them the serial number of the gun.
