Owners of newly prohibited firearms and devices are to keep them securely stored in accordance with their previous classification. The Display, Storage, Transportation and Handling of Firearms by Individuals Regulations (the Regulations) are available on the Department of Justice website.

Newly prohibited firearms and devices may only be transported under limited circumstances.*

It's almost like it was written that way to divide firearms owners, but when you actually read what it says it's clear that First Nations and non-First Nations have the same exemption for hunting for two years. People seem to be confusing "sustenance" (in the OIC) with "subsistence" (not in the OIC). Arguably any hunting for food is for sustenance.

As I read this, if you have a previously non-restricted rifle, you can still use it as normal as long as you are a hunter. It DOES NOT say that you can use it for hunting only. It DOES NOT say that you have to be a current hunter, as I see it, if you once had a hunter's license or have a hunter ID number or even have taken a hunter training course you should be good to use your previously non-restricted firearm as before.
NOTE* A) I'm not a lawyer, make your own decisions and be prepared to answer for them.
B) I'm sure that this is not what they intended but we all know about poorly written legislation in the regard of firearms....

To be truthful if they let me keep them as safe queens I would compromise but if they are going to try to give me peanuts for them or take them away I will fight tooth and nail. I will give every cent I can to the PCs and CCFR and every minute including travelling wherever I have to go in Canada to protest or help organizations for the next 2 years. I am trying to convince the wife to move as I dont want to live in a socialist dictatorship. Up until May 1 I was proud to be Canadian, now I wish I could leave it. I used to think Australia and New Zealand were brothers but after seeing them roll over to media induced hype after a madman went nuts I always thought, well at least we haven’t reached that point, and scratched them off the list of people living in a free society. Well now we have. Sickening really how democracy has turned out.

Why does a group of people who are involved in more violent crime per capita get to own more "assault weapons" than law abiding, contributing citizens?

agree fully! this kind of rhetoric isn't going to save our firearms from being confiscated and it only feeds stereotypes that were used against fire arms owners by the liberals. we need to stick together. this clause allowing aboriginals to still hunt with now prohibited firearms may ended up causing the liberals issues and we ought to focus on that

Anything I thought might be effected by the promised ban was outa the country after the election. Only 3 of my 20 AR15 qualified to go back to the US. If any of you are interested in exporting to the US I suggest you look into it NOW. The US has VERY protectionish import laws. And who knows what further OIC migth come down preventing the transfer to a business so it could be exported.
