Real CGN-wildcat-thread-soon-to-be-forum

'Rifle' mag and 'Handloader' mag are from the same publisher. Each is put out 6 times per year. The mag store here carries each, but on alternating months, and they disappear fast.

Ooops, almost a hijack....Hey, that 6mm/284 looks like a hot one, good with heavy's like 100grnr's, I bet. Any feeding issues ?

I have only one "Wildcat" I guess.

.375 H&H AI, Rem 700, 1.5-5X scope.

Shoots 260Gr Partitions @ 3090 fps, 95grs RL-22, and groups 3/4" @ 100yds.

To Fireform H&H brass i shoot 200gr Sierra FN with 73 grs IMR 4320, shoots under an inch as well.

Fun gun to shoot.

Keep this thread goin!!!

Hello Ultramag, im new to this insanity.I read at the first of this thread that you have a reamer for a 224 clark. Is this the same as a 224 texas trophy hunter? Also i was wondering where u get your reamers, and if there is any problem getting them across the border if they cant be purchsed in Canada. Thanks in advance, CDOG

Just one more thing ultramag, how did the clark perform??would it be a noticeable improvement over a fast twist swift or a 22-243? Maybe i just need a 22br?? As you can see im new to this and have many questions, and im afraid ill have many more!!!

Waiting patiently for info Ultramag..... :D

Reamers can be ordered directly (they're not gun parts). As far as I know, the Clarke and the TTH are versions of the 22-6mm Rem AI. Both can be faster then the 22-243 in it's various incarnations (I have a 22-243 Middlested), but these are calibers that really need longer barrels to work really well, and fast twists to use the heavier bullets. A trifle hard on barrels as well, 4000 fps bullet speeds are not hard to accomplish with the medium weight 22 bullets. - dan

I've been working up loads with 105 gr Hornady Amax's and military surplus 4831. So far it's looking pretty good, and the rifle feeds quite well from the magazine, which has been extensively modified. - dan

Im shooting a 25-284 and a custom 260 Rem that has such a short throat that it won't accept factory ammo in the chamber, so I guess it's sorta a wildcat

I am too lazy to read through 16 pages but if this hasn't already been said, the Handloaders Manual of Cartridge Conversions is a must have for wildcatters!!! I just picked it up and it is 1000 pages of pure gold!!! Apparently there are some mistakes in it, so the information should be verified, but it is very good info.

I also just picked up 3 boxes full of dies that are mostly oddball and wildcat. I will be listing the ones I don't want in the EE forum soon. Alot of Epps Improved and Newton dies and some other interesting ones. Drop me a line in the meantime if there is anything you are looking for.

I plan on starting work on a 6mm .30-.30 Epps as soon as my barrel gets here!!

I too agree that this topic may make a good forum if the mods were to see fit. Then I wouldn't have to wade through 16 pages of info!!

I think Stormbringer is working on it as we speak.... Maybe we all just have to ask him really nice.

Or maybe some sort of bribe! Wonder what he needs....... :D

I am curious how close the 6.5-300 mag is to the 264 winchester.. What do you get for velocities and accuracy. I shoot a 6.5x55 AI, and enjoy the fact that it is light and handcy, and the action is nice and short, and I get performance in the range of the 270 winchester out of it. Did you change the shape of the 300mag case, opening the shoulder a bit to make it even bigger?

It's a slightly longer 264 mag. The 300 case is simply necked to 6.5. With the added case capacity it will safely do what the factory claimed the 264 would do . Unfortunately I had some water damage in the reloading room and the folder with the 6.5-300 info was damaged so I get to start over. Accuracy with a King barrel is no problem.

I don't acctually shoot any wildcats yet, although I have a couple 8mm mags which are very close to it.

Anyway I was reading an article on the ".224 TTH (Texas Trophy Hunter) or as Redding calls it the 6mm rem/.22, This article is all I have heard about it but I would imagine it would be an interesting "predator round" for some of you guys to play with.

The only problem they mention is that they need to use fairly though bullets because the more fragile bullets are coming apart in the 1 in 8" twist barrels at the speeds that they can push them, which is apperently a good bit faster than the 22-250 and the 220 Swift.
