Recommendations for a Lady?

Congratulations on your purchase! That gun will serve you well for years to come! My gf has decided she wants to start participating in ATA trap so we will be attending the Edmonton City Championships this coming weekend at the Edmonton Gun Club. We attended the provincials the weekend before last and after seeing about a half dozen women taking part she decided she was going to as well. This will be her first shoot this coming weekend. She is planning to shoot the singles and handicap each day. We also will be attending the Wainright summers end shoot the weekend of the 28th so, another 400 targets she wants to shoot so I had to run out yesterday and find her more ammo! Lol

How did it go with the new gun?

Did the GF enjoy the shoot?

I'm not getting out nearly as much as I'd like to, life just being life and all. I am improving, though :) I love my Browning. Shouldering correctly is now becoming automatic :D

Normally I don’t recommend pumps or semis to children or small women due to the length of the receiver. Typically I find that mechanically it puts their left hand to close to the receiver and in some case straightens out the arm too much especially if the LOP is too much and in the case of pump the physical pumping of the gun is one more complication a new shooter doesn’t need. However at 5 feet 6 you Shouldn’t have too many problems especially if the LOP is good.
I would definitely recommend skeet. Watch Botha’s videos on skeet first. Then watch a round live. Then go and shoot. In many ways follow through and gunspeed are more critical in skeet it might help break your habit of aiming.

Hi,
You may want try a Remington 870 pump action. They're made in 20 gauge in regular, compact, and youth sizes. They weigh in at about 6-6.5 lbs if I remember right, and barrel lengths of 26" (full size), 21" (compact size), and 18.75" (youth size). The length of pull is adjustable as well.

Retail price is just around $500.

Have fun!

Cheers,
Neil

She liked it so much at the end of the shoot she bought a used BT-99 Micro with less than a flat of ammo through it. She has really improved in the past few weeks with that gun. She either misses outright or turns them to a black boiling cloud of dust. She had never broken the 20 mark until she bought that gun and within a flat of ammo shot a 23, her best round to date and today in Wainright she outshot me on the last 25 of the 100 singles! I've created a monster. She says she likes the registered shoots much more than regular practice time. Says it makes her focus and want to do well. She is hooked. As for me I'm struggling to get these two Perazzis working for me. Since losing 210+ pounds my guns no longer fit or shoot where I am looking. They will be headed out next week for pitch and lop corrections plus a restock on the MX8 and adjustable butts put on both.

Most excellent Good for her.

210 pounds hey sounds like you are missing a whole other person! Could see some LOP issues there.

Are you shooting better Caps then singles?

Yesterday in that howling wind in Wainright I shot better from the 25 yd line than the 16 by 1 target! It was so windy several times on hard rights from 5 the wind gusts actually pushed my barrel in a burst just as I pulled the trigger putting me way ahead on my lead. Never felt anything like that until a couple shoots this summer, the other being provincials at Edmonton. 65k winds with stronger gusts move your barrels! It's actually hard to fathom at times it can do that?

Good on you Spank. Better to talk to you, than about you.

Jimmy Bob:

Have you been able to travel to Italy yet for your new Bambino?

Range bob put that blue guy in.

They have an APP for that.

Wind apps awesome for huntings as well they show the whole province directions, speed.

One bright side it pushed the target in the same direction.

Good morning, all.

I am a newbie. Rank beginner in trap. I have been out to a range twice now and I'm quite liking it. I am currently borrowing a shotgun belonging to my instructor's daughter, which is lovely but I can't do that forever. He often uses it to entice more women into the sport "Come on out and give it a try!" and I'd not stand in the way of that.

To that end, I am currently searching for a (preferably used) shotgun. But I have no actual understanding of what I'm looking for. Right now I find something online, send it to my instructor and husband (he's new to the sport as well, we're taking it up together) and they discuss it. While I'm good at research, it's hard to research something I know nothing about. I don't know that skeet is something I will look into (though I should probably keep an open mind) and I am definitely not a hunter.

What should I be looking for? The one I am using is a single-shot break action - and I can't remember the make or model >_<

Husband is looking too - he's borrowing his dad's shotgun which is apparently a proper trap gun (as I understand it, his grandfather used to compete).

We're in BC and hoping not to break the bank on starting up.

So, can you make some suggestions for me on what shotguns I should keep an eye out for? And where to look? I appreciate any and all help. (I have applied to the equipment exchange but will probably mainly look at ones that are close enough for us to check out in person - if I should happen to be accepted).

Browning Silver Sporting Clay's.....
Nice fit and finish and easy on the shoulder.

I hope you are still reading this thread, I suggest you look up the following shooters

Jessica Rossi
Kim Rhodes
Abbey Ling

Look at the statue
Now look at their gun likely to be sponsored
Now look at why they can achieve

Please DO NOT buy something “special” or lighter or smaller gauge

You can do it and beat any male shooter if you put your mind to it.

It’s all about gun fit and coaching

Sorry but I have read some incorrect suggestions here
