A friend of mine called me on a used Remington 700 25/06 sitting for sale at a local store a while back. Cheap. So bought it. It was a 1979 custom shop rifle with a nice piece of wood. It was hunted and had a few dents on it. Big deal.
I shot it. Seemed like it bedding would improve things so I had Rempel do it for me. It then shot nice 0.75" groups with 100TTSX without trying too hard.
I was going to leave it alone but then I became bored. So I stripped the finish. Steamed out a few of the easy dents. Sanded out a few more. The wood was very dense, and highly figured especially in the butt. The whiteline spacer under the recoil pad broke when I removed it. Oh well.
After about 6 or 7 coats of Antique Oil I think I'm done messing with this vintage custom shop rifle. I think it needs a black recoil pad now but that's about it.
