Reimagining the Rook rifle, an all Canadian custom 3.75lb 5.6x50 Magnum

One thing I can say about the VX-2's I've owned over the years--they can take a beating! I find that my older eyes seem to focus much better with lower magnification scopes. Don't know why.

I agree... I have half a dozen of the VX-3 1.5-5 scopes on hunting rifles.

Will look into em Greg, also have one of those Brownings. I like fixed long zeros anyhow. And thank you Boomer on the kind words too!

How about one of the little old Browning 4X scopes with a fine post and crosshair reticule, Angus? It's just sitting in my safe, and would be pleased to send it your way as a small contribution to a very fine endeavour.

bearhunter managed to wrangle me out of my Leupold Rimfire scope.
The multi-x cross hairs were about half the thickness as the regular ones.
Parallax would be easy to adjust on these as well.

For some reason my eyes dint work very well with this scope.

Think I’m going to put a nice little Talley peep sight on the quarter rib and use that, as up to its maximum range on game, that’s plenty accurate. Then it will stay under 4lbs handily too, always meant for it to be in the 3s ready to hunt.

Good call. Your eyes must be great, I can't see much past 50 meters with irons. lol

You should have a talented guy like double gun make you an express sight that clamps on to the front scope base.

Edit: oops I see the sight on the rib now.

Took a deep breath, cut it to 19”. Wanted the smallest, handiest package out of this possible. Now weighs 3 3/4lbs after more stock oil, 19” is the most accurate length thus far. I also love the new proportions, added a Talley peep sight, points sublimely.

Thanks Simon, still trying to get the 78gr monos to bughole. This rifle is insanely light and off hand that helps, but benched it’s a handful. It actually jumps pretty well too, recoil is a non event but it’s fast as one would expect for essentially a 3 3/4lb .22-250.

Took another deep breath and started on another point of indecision, doing wraparound checkering. Hardest part was making my mind up on the shape / orientation. It’s just started there it will encompass the grip.

Are you shooting those groups with the peep or a scope? The checkering is scary but I think it will look great!
