Reliable Gun's Annual Sale!! THIS WEEKEND, UPDATE: Sale has now ended

Picked up a fenix uc35 and a new tikka Mag. I'm happy with that. Kind of wish I could afford the Burris eliminator for %50 off but I thought $1100 was about regular price. I guess I was way off.

I picked up a CTR mag and some 911 Magpul grips during the on line sale. Shipping costs are a concern. $ 26.00 to Ontario for such a small parcel. Ouch. But at least someone had that mag. Bring on boxing day

My experience today:

No line up when I got there, but a packed store. Out of hot dogs, out of the ammo I wanted, no name taken for door prizes, lots of "I'm not sure where that is, talk to the guy with the line up formed to see him. There were several counter staff doing nothing but talking to each other, not too happy with any questions or pulling any ammo I wanted to see the price on and doing their beat to make me feel like I was nothing but an interruption to their conversations with other staff content to socialise instead of help out customers. You could really tell who the main staff were, as they were busting their asses off.

I ended up getting a bunch of the LAR mags I wanted, still no idea if they sell couplers, let alone metal ones for the mags, got my charging handle at 20% off, got some 9mm and .223 ammo at higher prices and different brands than I was wanting, got some solvent for the SKS that my son needs to clean the hell out of and was sent on my way, disappointed with the experience of driving in from Maple Ridge to spend more and get less than I wanted and feeling like an inconvenience on the drive home.

I doubt that I am entered in any of the door prize give-aways, no hot dogs for my boy, which I thought would have been a cool touch, way less ammo and not a great brand for one at almost retail price and feeling like unwound have gotten better treaent buying online than what I got after making the over hour long drive to get there to support a local shop. I expected "crazy busy" and staff that could only do so much while being sed, but feeling like a mooch at a soup line by staff just hanging around (one walking away when asking about ammo to joke with another staff who was also not helping anyone), not getting what I was hoping to get because of being blown off by staff that didn't know if they had what I wanted in stock and not wanting to look around for it or ask another employee), before driving an hour and a half through tragic to get back home.

I was REALLY looking forward to attending this sale, counting down the days, following the updates, reading the emails sent to me, picking out the stuff I wanted to get to finish my AR build, stocking up on ammo for my first trip to the range with four of my new toys, stocking up on cleaning/lubrication supplies, getting in on the awesome door prizes, showing my son what is available out there (HIS FIRST VISIT TO THE GUN STORE) and letting him pick a firearm to work for that will be his very own, letting him get on on the fun of the event, but we walked out way sooner than we wanted to, feeling extremely disappointed by the experience, unhappy with what I took home (no, it wasn't an out of stock situation) and like we wasted the better part of the day for the privilege of experiencing this disappointment. It's too bad, reliable has an awesome looking store and the whole event seemed like it was going to be a lot of fun. Instead, we're feeling pretty bummed out and empty handed after the whole experience.

Please excuse any smart phone auto-corrections and typos

I had to laugh when I read this ..... Shaking my head. Some people will never get it .... Maybe next year they wil have some whine and cheese to go along with your hot dog.

Why? Maybe a little long winded but the jist of it is he had to spend money and take a fair amount of his time to make the trip to the store, only to have employees ignore him or blow him off. I can forgive most anything, but lazy, stupid, or outright not helpful staff are a cancer to a business, especially a small business. A big corporation will have a-holes working in various links of the chain, there are too many people in the world for some of them to not be jerks, but there are so many people employed by the corporation that one a-hole doesn't really affect the company's appearance. If it's a small outfit with only a couple employees, and you get treated like dirt on your first experience, chances are pretty good you aren't going to think to highly of the shop and might not ever return.

I agree, there isn't enough wine and cheese in the world to go around to all the people #####in' in this thread, but at least call out someone who deserves it, not someone who posted an honest account of their experience. I like to hear all the good, and bad, gun-store related stories.

Someone didn't read the fine print... I'm kidding of course. ;) Unpleasant experiences are never wanted, on either side of the counter.

But still, says right there on the website : no whining.

;);)

Try working service retail and you might have a different perspective.
Theres alot of coordination to put somethng like this on.
I would speculate that those who were standing around doing nothing...there primary function is to run and get product when asked(theres a basement there)
and you have to have a system or it would be like the keystone cops if you know what I mean.
Disneyland and starbucks promote themselves as being all about the customer experience, check em out...

Shane and company do a great job and the good feed back far out weights the bad, 1000 people can be you best advertising but it only takes 1 to be your worst. Cant make the high maintenance 1s happy allthe time.

Enough said

I shop at Reliable. I just bought ammo during their Black Friday sale. It's a good shop, BUT I agree that at least a couple of staff members need attitude transplants. I think they'd be better as Parisian waiters: aloof and dismissive. Most of them are just fine though...
I don't need gushing, sunshiny service, but try being at least minimally pleasant and attentive when I'm spending the $ that keeps you employed. I see that as fair criticism. But generally, I also don't think you can expect the usual, "full-service" approach during the madness of one of these sales.

You're entitled to your opinion. I don't agree with the need to be hostile, but no law against it I guess. As for the cheese, never touch the stuff. Gas. Unless you're cool with me hanging out at your place afterwards, I'm which case I hope they have a lot :)

I think if you want premium service, don't go on the day of a monster sale. That's just common sense for any business.

And if you want to get your son into shooting, taking him to the range and buying him a hotdog afterwards is going to be 100 times more effective than taking him to a packed store.

Events like this are for going m with a list of stuff you already have researched, filling up your list as much as possible and getting out, then going somewhere else for a snack, because common sense tells you that free hotdogs run out pretty early because the guys standing in line eat them.

Thanks PP. I just want to restate though, I do not believe that the two that I felt with were regular employees of Reliable. They looked like two young guys incapable of identifying different types of ammo, who were brought in just to help with the sale. I really don't want to damage the reputation of Reliable because of a couple of temps that you would it encounter on any other day you would visit the store. And it was an amazing store!

I have been to 3 of these great events, and saved hundreds of dollars. Stood inline for hours in the rain, arrived mid morning and showed up late last year, the later I arrived the less there was to choose from... the things I was looking for.
I would suggest that if you want the full experience you and your son should get there bright and early next year, (dress warm and bring supplies) like those first 20 guys did, and if you go there knowing what you want, the world will be yours for the picking. I am sure you will have a better story to share.

Thats my experience.

First come first served.

That's right!! every time I've attended the sale I go early, I am one of the first 10 people in line I have everything I want written on a list on paper and I just handed to the first sales guy I see when I get to the door. I've never come away without everything on the list. If you're standing there hemming and hawing the sales man will not stick with you they have other people ready to buy now that they must attend to. It is a mad rush in there so I like to get in and get out fast most of the time with no hotdog too. If you want to get the deals you need to make sacrifices haha You need both your hands when shopping at a gun store.

Guys, the sale is still going on. On line at least. Still some nice stuff at great prices: CZ Shadow for 790$ (even cheaper than advertised, they must have had a lot in inventory to still have some), the fluted browning looks really good, albeit not so cheap even with the sale (for those who have never tried browning buckmarks but are into 22lr, try them, I prefer them to Rugers personnaly), and at 357$, the S&W SD9 is cheaper than any new centerfire handgun I can think of. Even norincos are more expensive than that.

Seems like I bought the last alfa proj of its kind though.

Grabbed two pairs of Wiley x for the price of one, can't beat that. Now I've got some nice eye pro for myself and a guest at the range.

I've already discussed your points previously. I made it very clear that I had no expectations of being doted over during such a busy time and recognized that most staff would be slammed. If you tool the time to read my post before coming at me like that, you would know that my issue was with two staff members that were standing behind the counter, helping no one while the regular staff were working their asses off, then being treated like an inconvenience by the idle two, mixed with a ton of attitude, not looking for the products that I wanted to buy and telling me that I should just take alternate choices that were at arm's length to them. I sense that you just want to be a clown by focusing on the hotdogs, which is fine if belittling people is your thing, but it's really not a good look for you.

In the future when such an experience happens to you, I wonder if you will just take it up the backside or make the owners aware of the incident so they can adjust on their end and respond accordingly. I am really trying to give you the benefit of the doubt that you were just posting without thinking versus just being a troll. I guess we'll see if you choose to respond.

Don't Feed the troll. Reliable sale was great this year and the weather wasn't as bad as previous years.

You win, this must be the stupidest post ever. It is chalk full of common sense that CGNers don't understand. Common Sense is NOT common in CGN.

That is the norm. Ain't yours till you finish checkout/payment. Don't recall ever seeing a shop that reserve stock for items in cart; would be pretty stupid for a store to lock up stock that way.
Way to go with the web site this year, no hiccups, was ready to go as soon as the timer ran out. Grabbed the last ATA shotgun at 50% off (thanks!) and immediately checked out as I suspected it was the purchasing that removes it from stock, not adding to the cart. Went back in for a leisurely look around and noticed that my 'Wish List' had been removed. I spent hours on your website this week looking at everything that I wanted and adding it to my wishlist as a convenient way to track everything I wanted. I dont know if that was a byproduct of shutting down the site or what, but see if you can keep wishlists intact next year.

And I second the motion that you guys have to double check your shipping costs, Canpar costs seem high. Thanks again for a great sale!
