Remington has missed the boat for years by only offering their .223 with a 1:9" twist. Good enough for out to 600 yards with 69 gr bullets and maybe 75 gr bullets if you use 2 scoops of powder.
Quite a few TR shooter are revisiting the .223 and using 1:6.8"-1:7" and 1:8" twist barrels and shooting 80 gr, 85.5 and 90 gr bullets and are winning.

There is a Savage 12 .223 on the EE with a 1:7 twist in an MDT chassis. Something to consider. (I don’t know anything about the Savage 12)

I have a Savage 16 with that same barrel. Shoots well, though right now the firing pin is giving me grief. - dan

Well I have fired a 7.62 x 54 in an old Mosin-Nagant. Nice and punchy with nothing at the end of the stock to absorb anything.

So you have shot a Mosin Nagant - How many rounds have you fired from it at a Bench ? Prone ? Free Hand standing ? or RJ

So you have shot a Mosin Nagant - How many rounds have you fired from it at a Bench ? Prone ? Free Hand standing ? or RJ

That was about 35 years ago. I shot a few rounds standing. No big deal, but then I am not a whimp like Trudeau. Till last fall, I was gun-less for 35 years. Glad I am back into it.

Bullet weight doesn't affect twist rate at all.

Bullet weight and shape affect bullet length and longer bullet requires faster twist rate to stabilize in flight.

Well I'll just stick with what seems to work for me and go with a CZ 600 Range model where they claim "Sub ¾ MOA guaranteed at 100 meters, 5 shot group with match-grade factory ammo, verified on every CZ 600 Range we make". Also verified by YouTube reviews. I am totally happy with the CZ 457 MTR that I bought and any flyer is a gunner problem, not a rifle problem.

I will view some YouTube reloading videos and also attend a class. I think the same instructor that provided my RPAL course provides a reloading class.

At the moment, I bought the Long Range Shooting Handbook by Cleckner.

That’s a 1:9 twist which will limit your bullet choice a bit.
