Maybe this is for a 10/22, but he wants to use a magazine larger than 10 rounds.

Actually, my biggest need is ANOTHER magazine. I don't mind loading separate magazines but if I lose the current good one and cannot buy a functioning replacement the rifle is useless.

I've never owned a 597 but I have an SBI adapter and 1 x 30rd. ProMag drum. Cool looking/fun to have 30 on deck but loading time is slow and function is inconsistent. Honestly? Not worth it. If you're actually volume shooting, I've found the payoff isn't there. More in the mag+more time to load=no advantage.

The mag itself? Well thought out, rounds move through it fine...something about the feeding is problematic.
