Remington 700 CP .308 Win Bolt Action Pistol 12.5 Threaded Barrel Non-restricted ???

Beautiful rifle! What kind of ballistics do you figure the 308 has out of 12.5" barrel. I thought it fell off dramatically when the barrel was shorter than around 20 inches?

I'm reading write ups with 150gr at 2500fps and 165gr at 2450fps in 13" barrels recommended powder is IMR4895 but not H4895 I would try Varget.

I used a Shooting Chronie for over 25 years and now have a LabRadar

The 14" barreled 309JDJ with 150gr bullets in a T/C Contender I'm looking at buying right away runs on much lower pressures than a 308 bolt gun is supposed to get 2600fps with 125gr/130gr bullets, 2450fps - 2500fps with 150gr bullets and 2375fps with 165gr bullets I'd get a 1-12" twist though...

Don't know if I call 300 yards short range though = I would consider these Rem 700 CP carbines 300 yard deer combo's exactly the same as my Contenders.

Nice. We should start a thread somewhere about recipes for sbr rifles.

I am amazed! Your loosing next to nothing on a 165gr bullet. I figure your right with a 1-12 twist rate seeing that there is 6 to 10 inches lopped off a conventional barrel. The 300 Blackout also has my interest, but those kind of ballistics from a 308 win., may make me reconsider trying to set up for another caliber.

I'd go 1-12" for 110gr - 165gr bullets would result in higher velocities than a 1-10" twist rate got this info from Encore/Contender guru Mike Bellm and discussed it with SSK Firearms when talking to them about ordering the 309JDJ barrel.

If I were to load 165gr - 190gr Accubond Long Range in a 308 Win or the 309JDJ I'd want a 1-10" twist.

Not going to wait now posting these velocities for the 309JDJ has convinced me I'm ordering that barrel - dies and another one of the vent ribs for my 375JDJ barrel on Monday.

Part of why I like these short Contenders is because the guns are shorter than the handlebars on my KLX250S dual sport motorcycle.

Nothing wrong with a short barrel 308 or 300BLK. BLK was created for short barrels but even 308 is actually a very forgiving caliber.

With my 16” SRS Covert I clock my 175 TMKs at 2450 FPS and they stay supersonic to 950 yards and will do 1/2 moa. If I wanted to go further I would go with a 6.5 creed and a 24” tube.

Lots of our neighbors down south use the Speed 150 Golddot in 300blk 10” hunting barrel. Seen plenty of groups below 1 moa and the round will fully expand up to 300 yards

IRUNGUNS US website has the brace version which should be NR for sure.

Doesn't it have the brace because it is considered to be a handgun?

If it had a stock, in the US it would be a short barrelled rifle, and subject to the US NFA. The brace means it is a handgun, and not a rifle.

The trick is to get it into Canada classified as a rifle and not a handgun.

laws are different here and there.

If that brace makes it 26" OAL or greater its NR by definition in the law. Doesn't matter what the americans call it.

Maybe.
Buy a pistol in the US, bring it into Canada, does it get classified as a handgun here as well?
The Mare's Leg didn't. Maybe that is the precedent.
Remington could assemble them with buttstocks - but they would have to federally register then as SBRs. Exporting NFA controlled firearms is more complicated.
Anyway, if they could be made available here as n-r, they would be handy little rifles.

Wrong. There is no OAL requirement for NR. Being a bolt action it shouldn't matter what length it is. It hinges entirely on whether the rcmp class it as a handgun. We have the mares leg as a good example. Are there any bolt guns classified as handguns currently?

This is true, but I know for a fact it helps in the eyes of the boys in blue at the lab who arbitrarily make these decisions.

No pistol bolt actions that I know of besides that old one that was sort of a bullpup, cant remember what brand. I was effectively a pistol though.
