Remington 770 disappointment.

if you have QC problems with your Remington 700 imagine what problems youd have with a 710/770 -- which is a redesign with every single cost-cutting measure conceivable short of building the gun out of plumbing hardware.

Yup, they must be crap then. What were your experiances with your 710/770 that you can share with the community? Did your's really shoot that bad or come apart?

My breif expirence with the 770 was not a good one.in oct 2008 i bought a 770 in .243 for the up coming deer season.i went with the .243 as it would also be my coyote gun.any ways i was to busy to get to the range to sight it in and hunted with my 870 with slug barrel.first trip to the woods deer hunting with the 870 i got a nice whitetail.not being able to hunt with the rifle until after the close of deer season i was in no hurry to get to the range.so in december i finally get the rifle to the range .i fire shot number 3 out of the rifle and it will not extract the fired case factory 80gr federal.i get the case removed with a cleaning rod.this happens 4 more times the last being shot number 12.when i racked the bolt with some vigore attempting to clear the spent case i pulled the bolt right through the bolt stop.:bangHead:
it cost me a 150 bucks to learn you get what you pay for.:(

one does not need to actually buy one to understand that a low-end rifle with a press-fit barrel, plastic sleeved action, plastic parts, no recoil lug, no aftermarket and thousands of posts complaining about extraction problems and a horribly rough/sticky action means that it is a POS.
insinuating that you need to have owned one to say its a POS is like saying you need to have been a junkie to know that heroin is bad for you

and whoopty #%@$in' doo, it can actually shoot a projectile and kill an animal. amazing. people keep touting that as if it makes everything else alright

Well that's kind of what I thought. Any other owners have horrer stories? Now mabye the actual owners won't be affraid of ridicule and come forward with their stories. No, probably not. Why? Because the owners who fill their freezers every year don't log onto chat rooms to discuss why their rifle, the only one they could afford at the time is such a piece of s**t. With so many owners complaining of how bad their rifles are, my offer below still goes unanswered.

plenty of them log on to ##### about the 710/770, as evidenced by the countless threads complaining about them and some of the posts in this thread.

the 'only rifle they could afford' is no excuse either since there are at least a half dozen other options under $480 that would be better:

1. Stevens 200XP Camo package ($449)
2. Savage 111FCXP3/11FYCXP3 package ($429)
3. Marlin XL7 (barebones model is $299 in the US, couldnt find a dealer in Canada)
4. decent used rifle/scope off the EE
5. decent used rifle/scope from a gun shop
6. Mossberg ATR 100 ($269)

again, youre offering a $150 chinese milsurp for a ~$500 factory rifle. dont hold your breath.

I will trade you a 710 for a Robinson XCR in 6.8spc...

Edit: actually I could get you 2, a 30-06 with the above mentioned problem, and a 270...both lightly used...

I can understand this sentiment in the chevy vs ford vs dodge debates or the like, where the products are actually comparable in features, value and price. But the fact is, the Remington 710/770 is NOT a $500 rifle like Remington would like to pretend it is. Does it work ok for some people? No doubt, or the lawyers would've shut down the product a long time ago. The accountants are very happy however, as this disposable rifle should be selling for much, much less. I'm thinking $200 or less.

When you can get STEEL for $400, it is completely beyond me why anyone would buy PLASTIC for $500.

Lets hear about all the guys who pulled their bolts back too hard and broke the stop on their Stevens 200/Mossberg ATR/Marlin XL7/Savage 11/111!

*crickets*

Yeah that's what I thought...

No one's forcing anyone to buy any rifle. It's a free country, and you can spend your money as you please. It just literally makes me sick to my stomach to hear about a first time hunter/shooter go out and buy one of these pieces of crap because most likely their purchase was made in good faith to Remington; they trusted the name, and trusted the name would deliver to them a quality product, instead of leading them into a pit of spikes. They might not get impaled on their first fall, but it's still a pretty sh*tty place to end up. I am absolutely floored this product is still on the market.

I guess I lucked out with my 710, It has 950 rounds through it. Has had exactly 5 jams (double feed from the magazine), never had an extraction problem, and shoots well. Besides being a terribly light rifle and therefore jumps lots when shooting it has served me well. That is not my justification on owning this rifle and spending $425 on it plus another $320 on a decent scope.
I actually bought it because people said it was a piece of crap, I figured I would give it a shot. The worse thing in my expierance was the original scope which has since been replaced, So far been happy. If you guys can't understand that, thats your situation to deal with. You can say what you want, from close in out to 400 yards this rifle will hit the kill zone of an animal and drop it it dead as well as any other with a competant shooter within their shooting ability.
I understand the issue with the rifle as a batch and I understand peoples bias towards it. But many that I have talked to who "own" one are happy with it overall. Not to say they are jumping with joy but the are happy.

To me to spend $1000 on a rifle I will use 3 or four times a year just isn't what I want to spend my money on, buying used is for the most part out of the question unless i know and trust the person selling the object.
Can a person get a bigger and better deal, sure, can you get a worse one sure.
I am happy with my rifle for the reason that it works for me and what I do. Thats it.

Maybe this summer I will go out and buy a 700 to give it a go as long as he G/F approves.

Cheers all.

Obviously it suits your purpose but many people on CGN shoot many rifles 3 or 4 times a week, some of them are good quality remingtons but that doesnt change the fact that the 710/770 is considered by the majority of shooters to quite possibly be the worst centrefire ever produced. To each their own

do you own a proper non-disposable rifle to compare it to?
unless you do, you dont really have a point of reference and will most likely change your mind once you get one.

id recommend the Ruger M77mkII/Hawkeyes over the current production 700s.
