I was wondering do they make a AR10 in non restricted , I am new to these types of firearms. I would like to purchase one but would like a non restricted so I can use it for plinking in the back yard.
Any recommendations ,I have a CZ858 0n the way curious on its accuracy. Any info as to what ones are restricted and which are not would be greatly helpful, I don't get how they rate these firearms. Thanks

Everything called an AR or is an AR variant is restricted, don't look for logic in firearms classification, there isn't any. One Non restricted for semi-auto would be Robinson XCR's in 7.62x39 or .308.. The CZ858 is ok for accuracy but hard to attach optics, and if you want accurate go with a bolt gun anyway. Another good Rifle is an SKS, seems every firearm owner in Canada seems to have one, I have two, great fun, cheap and can use surplus 7.62x39 ammo.

It's been a while, but I seem to remember some of the Dutch AR-10s were non-restricted. Pretty sure they are ultra rare though.
The converted autos got prohibited along with all the rest.

Restricted version is cheapest option if you want to go down that road.

Depressing to make this post as it's reminding me of 1995 all over again.

If your looking for a rifle in a nr format that looks ARish expect to pay 2-3x what the restricted rifles are. Even then NR ones I've tried don't have the accuracy or diversity of restricted rifles to make it worth the large sum of money invested. Get your restricted, join a club, jump through the hoops at the start then you can open up what you have access to. I never had a interest in pistols/AR until I got my restricted. Now that is what I shoot the most.

If i was in market for a NR black rifle that really worth the dollars for accuracy and reliability...
Your best shot is a FNAR NR at 1600.00, price is extra good ( read low) and i would vouch for it to be one of the most precise SA rifle out here if not the most... JP.

Stay with the non-restricted rifle . Regardless of how good , or accurate a restricted rifle is ; it will spend its whole life punching paper , or knocking down steel ; and you will spend your whole life paying range dues , and following their rules . With a handgun , you have no choice but to go restricted , but with a rifle.....you have the option....If you want a non restricted rifle with the military look ; a Famae SG may do the trick , they come in 223 and 308 , but can be a bit pricey....

A friend of mine has an FNAR, it's a nice rifle and shoots very well but he's still struggling to find a handload that will shoot 1 moa consistently. This isn't terrible for a semi but he's a little disappointed that it's not shooting as advertised. It's close and will do a nice tight group once in a while but it isn't consistent. He does like the rifle though.
I've shot his rifle a few times and it is a nice shooter with a pretty gentle recoil impulse considering it's a 308.

If you want a non restricted 308 and you're on a bit of a budget then an M305 is probably your best option. Personally I would not sink a bunch of money into one and just enjoy it for what it is. All the ones I watch on the EE that have fancy stocks and a bunch of money tied up in cosmetic upgrades seem to move slowly. There are some accuracy enhancements that can be done to the rifle though that would be worth the effort.

As for other non restricted semi auto 308's there is the XCR-M, the Kel-Tec RFB, ATRS Modern Hunter, Famme SG-542, these are all going to cost you $2500-$5000 depending which one you choose. I'm sure I must be forgetting something but there really aren't a lot of 308 non restricted semi auto options. I've tried all of the ones I listed except the Famme and I have to agree with carmel, the FNAR is probably the best bang for the buck.

Both of my FNAR have a sweet spot for lighter bullets, being a 1 in 12 ROT they will favour them, 155 gr Hornady Match( .5-.6 MOA) and 154 gr Lapua Scénars ( .6-.7 MOA) are the favorite bullets here for me, your milleage may vary...
They shoot the Hirtenberger Surplus Nato MOA or better, those are 147 gr... JP.

Buddy is loading Hornady 150gr FMJ, I've suggested he try some higher quality bullets just to see if it will shoot better but he's being stubborn.
Next time I'm shooting with him I'll try to convince him to try something different again.

Thanks

Shooting HP surplus Nato will likely put him around MOA, i have a friend with a FNAR also that is getting similar good result, he should try some to boost is hope... JP.:)

I have several pistols and do belong to a club I am a range officer at our club and handgun safety officer.I want a non restricted firearm to shoot at my own property.

my thoughts exactly tht why I want a non restricted to shoot at my own property owning a Cpl hundred acres then driving 45 mins to club don't make sense.Cheers

This is as close as you can get to a Non-Restricted AR10. Its an entirely new design by Alberta Tactical Rifle Supplies, named the Modern Hunter.

Your welcome. Just bring your wallet. Haha :p

Even if i am very satisfied with my FNAR... Being a fan of the 308 and the AR platform, there is one MH in my future, probably summer 2016... JP.

WOW half down no delivery till spring 2016....3500+ owch.. jeez I got a cz858 in the mail I might just have to play with that for awhile...any others that are non restricted? seems dumb make the guns made in our own country restricted so we buy other countries firearms...

same here JP, depending on the finances due to the baby coming end of March and depending on what happens with firearms once the prime minister stops smiling at the cameras.

So I guess my odds of getting a MH are about 17%

I have decided to keep only one AR in each caliber, my KAC SR15 Mod2 in 223 and my DPMS HBAR in 308...
The rest will come in the NR form so i can shoot a lot more on my land in Gatineau, i have being negleting this place for the last 2 years since i started restricteds... JP.
