Results of a M14S/M305 Kabboom

jerry kuhnhaussen's 30 calibe service rifle shop manual....is the authoritive work on the m14...... And if your rifle blows up from reloads..... Don't blame china..... Don't blame buddy on cgn that told you it was o.k. ..... Blame youself cuz you chose not to get the correct information from the best source there is.

We really need to put this to bed.
Reloader error causes a kaboom and we all start runnin aound like the sky is falling.... This topic is just so......... Internet :d :d

Yes, i think this was reloader error. You don't have to beat your head for me.

The hammer will fall on an M-14 with the bolt pulled back a bit. The firing pin can't move forward because it is blocked by the bridge. Take your rifle apart leave the bolt in and rotate it from locked to unlocked and watch the pin. It shouldn't be able to move forward until the lug enguages the reciever. If it does throw it away.

Thanks for the clarification. I will check.

WOW! This thread got rolled over.

That's why I also don't tell guys to neck size for their M-14's. There is no sense to try and attain bolt action accuracy via necksizing for a gas gun that relies on cases coming and going easily out of the chamber. There are plenty of bolt actions for that purpose. Use the M14 for it's intended purpose and enjoy it.

I experimented once with neck sizing for the M-14 and could see where a bit of crud or your chamber not being perfectly concentric to the bore would cause the bolt lugs to not fully go into battery and Voila! Slam-Fire! The last thing you want are bolt lugs that are not fully engaged or always tight.

I also tried every primer available to see if one was softer than the other, but could not reproduce a slamfire, but my funds are limited and destroying guns is not a cheap option.

BTW, nobody's #### fell off yet. ;)

I'm looking into ordering a 100 copies to add to our site once we are up and running.

And dogleg..... you should take nothing i've posted personally. I like to cut to the chase and give the best info that is availlable. I find it frustrating to spend so much time on this board, freely giving advice here and through clinics, to get snuffed off like some kind of blow hard who doesn't know what he's talkin about. Some people may be offended by my direct approach..... but so be it. I have had the Kunhaussen manual drilled into my head by Lazerus2000 and by a man who served with the m14 for several years, competed with an m14 at the camp perry shoots, and was a master armorer with the USMC for many years. No, I'm not a liscenced gunsmith....... but I've been called on on more than one occasion by my peers...... I modestly declined the title..... but whatever.

we are here to help each other out, that is my intent, if you felt i was "blaming" you for the incident with your rifle...... well I owe you an apology. We can not allways type things the way we would say them face to face. So with that, I'm moving on..... hope the rest of us can too hehehehe

Hungry here: Me too.... I'm with you Thomas!

Wow, there's a copy of his Colt 1911 manual, paperback, listed on ebay for $200. Holy sh**, batman.

PS They have the M-14 book available at Gun Show Books. Not sure about posting the link (its not a gun site but it is a gun book site) but search for Gun Show Books and then search the site for Kuhnhausen. $US44.95 + shipping.

hammer follow?

should i be worried if i can pull the trigger on my m14 with usgi synthetic stock with the bolt at any point in its travel and the hammer will drop? Or is there something that would keep the firing pin from contacting the primer on the cartridge even with the hammer dropping?
