Just prior to my retirement;) a number of years back, the 'kids' started entering me for a draw 'gift' of an Antelope hunt in AB. That was about 13 years ago and this year we all got our draws. We did a little scouting the first afternoon we arrived and a short while later, the first to connect was my Daughter.

Early the following day, I got my chance and took the shot. :(The only down side of the hunt was, while my rifle was sighted in for the range the animal was at and even though I had a good rest, I pulled the shot a few inches low. It was only because of the skill and determination of my guide and Son In Law, my Antelope was found and put permently to rest with a finishing shot.

And last but not least, to further our success, my Son In Law connected with a third Antelope later that afternoon.

I can't thank the 'Kids' enough, for a great hunt, a great retirement gift/opportunity and the pleasure of going on another hunt with them in AB. Probably I'll be back for Mule Deer again in future but doubtful that I'll ever get another crack at Antelope. If it takes another 13 years to get a draw, I may be a little old to go after another 'Speed Goat'.

My Daughters was the first. I 'think', body wise anyway, my Son In Laws was the biggest and;) mine is the 'cute' one in the middle:D. Again, a great experience and hard to beat three animals down in less than 24 hrs.

Nice goats Johnn. You forgot to say what cartridge and load you used...:)

- My Daughter was shooting a 7mm RM, in a 700 Rem I believe, using the 160gr Barnes TTSX in factory Federal Premium ammo.
- My S.I.L., shooting a custom built 300 WSM based on the Rem 700 action. The ammo, my handloads using the Barnes 180gr TSX, pushed by IMR 4350 and to the 'receipe' specs of the outfit that made up the rifle for him.
- Mine, I was shooting my model 68DL Schultz & Larsen in 7x61 S&H. The ammo was my handloads using the 140gr Barnes TTSX pushed by IMR 4350.

Congrats to all three of you! Antelope are very fun to hunt and delicious to eat. My son was drawn in the Medicine Hat area for the later season this year, where I will accompany him on his hunt. Your daughter's buck has a real nice high rack..........special congrats to her!

Your son in law looks a little sketchy ;)

Congrats on some great antelope....especially during a tough year.

What an awesome retirement present! Congrats on the successful hunts & your retirement!

And, as a father who just had a baby girl, I congratulate you on raising your daughter to love hunting! Way to go DAD!!!

Cheers

Agreed,:) that it was. However, with my Daughters intro to and interest in hunting, my role was minimal. When she was a pre-schooler, I took her for a few late afternoon-evening rides up a local logging road. On one such ride I left her in the truck with windows open while I field dressed a small Blacktail I had shot. I knew she had a developing interest in the sport as I could hear her talking steady while I was at the task at hand on the two point. Her interest, experience and acquired skills in the sport are the result of her husband. A few years ago, they spent a month hunting in Africa while my wife & I babysat/spoiled our Granddaughter. Her husband, as graylake on site, in his posts has posted a good account of their hunt with pictures and details.

Nice Antelopes, what wmu were you in?

Impressed that you did so well after the winter and unseasonal snowstorms in AB.

Right on Johnn! I figured you must be out here causing trouble!!! ;)

Looks and sounds like you had a great time

That we did. Initially there was some thought of returning home via a southern AB route. Had that come to be, I was planning on giving you a call on the way through. However, as warm as it was and to make sure meat loss didn't pose a problem, we highballed it home via the Jasper route. All was good and as our first, we had our first taste of Antelope tonight for supper. ;)Speed Goat berger. If the rest tastes like that, no complaints! My Daughter is making arrangements to have mine done up as a Europeon mount.

Basically, the 160's. We stayed in Hanna and I recall years back, hunting Ducks & Geese in that area.

My S.O.L. mentioned that the numbers were down noticeably from previous years, probably a result of the impact of recent harsh winters and the resulting winter kills.
