Review - Vortex Razor HD gen II 4.5-27x56

One of the mods alerted me of this thread. I will side track this thread for a moment.

The account was compromised and it was banned.

i would like to take this opportunity to make people aware. There are 173,000 accounts at CGN. If there is money to make, there will be scams. There are many ways to compromise an account. For example, a webbrowser can be holding all kind of passwords and many people don't even care.

It is a reality that accounts can be compromised. Communities like CGN is vulnerable because people have built a lot of trust on each other. On the other hand, simple things like pictures will go a long way. Trader ratings are important, but it should not be a license plate to just take the money without showing a picture.

A new trader rating rule is coming soon. If a seller refuses or does not produce pictures that prove ownership within a set time frame, the buyer can leave negative rating. We need to foster an online buy/sell culture that is based on trust, but also on verification.

Thanks CGN Admin for taking the effort to post this update. I too will take this one opportunity to side track.

As I stated in an early post, price was too good to be true at 57% BNIB. My rough price guidelines are 85% for BNIB, 75% newish, 60% based on used conditions. Anything below raises a red flag.
57% in this case was a solid red flag. If you are ever so lucky to find a lottery win deal be sure to verify/validate/authenticate the seller (yes, I'm being redundant, you should be too)
Had I been the unlucky buyer without solid verification I would have insisted on EMT $100 deposit, COD.

Scam can come by
1.) hacked acct, seen too many lately scamming hot items like pythons, Razor, ...
2.) acct created by hacker, usually new with few posts/FB
3.) desperate members, rare but so are lottery winnings.

For folks using Google Mail and Chrome be aware they can store you browsing history, id and pwd. Lose your smart phone with simple pwd and you're completely compromised; Scammers have access to EVERYTHING. Ultra convenient having everything linked from PC to laptop to Smartphone to tablet but if any device is stolen/accessed the scammer have full access to your life.

Holy Fukking $hit, that is some scary stuff. I bought a Gen II a few weeks ago for $2,900 with NF rings and was kicking myself for buying too soon and missing this deal.

Now I don't feel bad for missing a scam deal, but I will definitely have to be more cautious about shopping on EE. I took his trader rating for face value and never even considered that his account would have been hacked. I've gotten some smoking deals from EE and the CGN community (ACR for $1,300 for example) so I figured he just wanted to raise some fast cash.

It took me a long time to earn a half decent trader rating so I take all of my transactions very seriously. I've never even considered a hacked account, talk about me being naive.

Damn.

I have been looking at that Gen 2 razor or even Gen 1, jumped onto that and was getting a wicked lottery deal worked out but something felt off in my Gut when he was short/didn't answer much.
Always trust you gut people, if I didn't I'd definitely be out $2000 right now. Had the EMT all made out and just needed to send him the password.

Time to keep looking for a Gen 2 or Gen 1

2000 for gen2 razor 4.5-27 is crazy deal!I Paid almost double of that for mine

Vice versa shopping the outside BC stores to save the 7%PST. $250+ tax vs 20 bucks shipping, no brainer.

Looked into importing from US, long wait.
Taxes really have their toll in these bracket of price items
Glad i got it from BC at 3599$+5%tax

Looking for rail/mount MOA recommendations. 0, 20 or 30 MOA?

Goal: Long term goal is long range shooting of 1KM to 1.5km with 338LM. Local Range is only 200m max so weekly shooting is 100m and 200m with 260Rem.

Scope: Razor II MRAD: 28.5MRAD elevation adj. 97.9MOA.
Rail: SRS has flat top pica rail.

Initial thoughts are 20 MOA unimount. Or is 30MOA better?

Any recent owners?
Mine is in the mail ETA wednesday!
Your review was great and gave me the last push to purchase, on top on snipers hide youtube review

Recently read another review, which made me doubt my choice of optics.
Review saying scope was very good and nice, until elevation was cranked to max, then that's when things start going sideways and image turns blurry.
Just hope mine won't be that way

The negative "review" was made without even mounting the scope on a rifle and has been the subject of much commentary on Sniper's Hide and other sites. I have my own views but suffice to say I attach no weight to the comments and have not found anything remotely similar on either of my two Razor II HD's.

If i would of read that review before yours or watching snipers hide on youtube, i would of turned away and purchase something else.
So if that negative review was easily debunked, there was lack of integrity.
Kinda like a ford rep reviewing a chevy truck.

Yes, something like the ford rep reviewing a Chevy truck. Exactly.

Most scopes will do that.

Tilt
Tilted mounts are necessary when shooting at very long distances. We generally recommend as little tilt as possible as large amounts of tilt really may have a negative impact on the quality of the sight picture. In most cases 6-9 MIL (20-30 MOA) will have no negative impact on picture quality while still providing greater available adjustment range for long-range shooting.

To allow for the greatest available range of adjustment choose a mount with a tilt that is half of the scope’s range of elevation. For example Schmidt & Bender 5-25x56 have a maximum elevation adjustment of 26 MIL (93 MOA,) you should therefore choose a mount with 13 MIL (45 MOA) in tilt. Doing so assures that you are able to adjust the sight out to very long distances.

However, when mounted in this extreme elevation it’s common to experience optical defects such as a oval pictures when shooting at near targets, etc. We therefore recommend that when fitting a large elevation scope (such as 26 MIL/93 MOA) on a .308 rifle that will only be used out to 1000 meters, to choose a 6 MIL/20 MOA tilt as it’s more than sufficient for that use.

English is not my first language
How i interpret what you have just pasted

If using too much of an aggressive tilt on the rail or mouting system (45moa)
You need to dial down elevation nearly to max to shoot at close targets, which gives oval picture sight

They do not speak of cranking the scope up 20mil.
Maybe has that same effect going on, on the other end of the spectrum

I am using a 24" barrel .308, 20moa rail, and my end game will be the famous 1000 yards shot if ever i can make the shot
Using my ballistics calculator, they speak of cranking 8mil, but only time will tell once i have chronographed

Edit : reread what i posted, application said crank 14mil, but would have the same effect on scope than cranking 8mil, as the 6mil tilt rail will be at work.
I still crank 14mil, but i'd be placed in same adjustment spot as someone cranking 8mil on 0moa rail.

Integrity is something I take very seriously and I review very carefully to ensure my observations aren't just opinion. The scope in question went back to the owner who also saw the problem... the scope was then returned to the dealer who also saw the issue. Maybe it was shown to others in the store.. don't know. The scope did go back for repair and I have not heard any feedback since. Maybe everyone doesn't know how to use a scope except those that never see a problem????

I totally get alot of Razor owners do not have a problem. Never said all scopes had a problem.. Just that the scope I reviewed DID and careful inspection of any scope would be a good thing... and that applies to any scope from any manf. Assume nothing, check everything. This stuff is alot of money.

Maybe I have no idea how to use a scope (after 20yrs of mucking about with this stuff.. must be a slow learner)... and maybe, I have received comment from other Razor owners who shared the same experience.

All man made products can have an oops.. Sh!T happens... That is why there is a manf warranty and I am sure all owners were properly taken care of . But let's not put rose coloured glasses on whenever your pet product is being reviewed.

And let's not call into question integrity/honesty because an opinion doesn't agree with yours...... especially when you were not there to review the product in question.

Identifying a problem goes a long way to fixing it and not having it show up again... that is a good thing and a mark of a progressive and ultimately successful company.

YMMV

Jerry
