RF224 11.7” Review?

Hello all, I bought the RF224 from Tenda and it is what I expected it to be, a fun, easy to shoot .22LR rifle. It’s accurate enough to 50m if I do my job. Like many semis, it needs hotter loads. CCI Mini Mag at 1235fps work fine, but do a full cleaning before you shoot as it arrives a bit gummy with grease. I would say at least 100 rounds to break in. The shipped magazines, look like Rugers but are not Ruger mags. Reliable enough but nowhere near Ruger quality or reliability. The 597 magazine converter is well known to be not reliable. ProMag banana mags for the 10/22 are not dependable, they do not lift the round high enough for proper chambering if loaded to 10. Less than 10 in the mag functioned fine. I have switched to using real Ruger magazines and that so far has resolved the issue. I put a cheap ass dot on it and for fun mini gun stuff it’s good. I overspent and put a Spearhead Machine brake on it and at this point the muzzle doesn’t move on firing offhand, so pull fast and have fun. The factory trigger is meh, but it does improve as it gets broken in. Replacement triggers for 10/22s are not usable in this rifle, so you get what you’ve got. Be aware that as others have noted, there is no way to lock the bolt open, so a chamber flag is a must. I find that annoying personally but how much it bugs you is up to you. I compared it to the Derya in the same price point, and chose the Adler because of the metal not plastic construction. I preferred the Adler, your mileage may vary.

In fairness it just looks cooler than a general 10/22. Not as reliable and not as accurate but at $429 it is what it is.

Cheers
This was awesome. Thanks for taking the time for such a comprehensive review!

A actual Ruger 10/22 Carbine at Bass Pro cost $110 less than this clone without any of the listed problems.. SKU 4054438.

Is what it is, and that is one over priced pile of garbage.

Thanks Wraith, exactly the feedback I was looking for. Who did you source the compensator from?
In this case I didn't. I had bought a Tandemkross GameChanger from Dlask in B.C., but it turned out to be terrible, causing 22LRs to tumble , scrape it, ding it, and go in every direction. Tried it on several pistols and rifles, no luck, then tried it on a heavy-barrel Ruger 10/22 I was selling here, and it worked ok. I had told the buyer, who was local to me in Ontario, to take it off he experienced any issues. I had taken an older compensator off of said rifle, one that is available (or out-of-stock) just about everywhere, https://store.theshootingcentre.com/tacsol-x-ring-compensator-22-lr-1-2x28-matte-black/ at CSC and a few other stores. It worked great on everything I tried it on so now resides on the RF224. At a modest 20 yards it is bullseye accurate, which is all I need for my range. I'm loving the RF224 despite the heavy spring...anything less than Federal Champions or CCI Mini-Mags and it will not cycle. Give it the right ammo and enjoy.

The Bass Pro/Cabelas in Ontario want $500 for the cheapest Ruger 10/22 and the same price online. I have one in an AR-type stock and an upgraded trigger. It shoots a bit better than the RF224, as it should with a longer barrel and upgraded trigger and a very, very big scope I was gifted. My RF224 only has a red dot, and that's all it needs.

For those of you with an ADLER RF 224 .22lr, after some experimentation you can get an ambidextrous thumb mag release by reversing the existing mag release lever which pushes the whole thing out towards the mag and in the open like an MP5. Why they did not do this from factory I don't know.

Brilliant! How are you enjoying it?

After handling a friends rf224 at the range the other day, i ordered myself one on Saturday, hopfully it ships soon, grabbed an aftermarket stock, afg and red dot locally in anticipation.
I also ordered 6 promag remington 597 mags, anyone have experience with these mags, i know my friend had minor fitment issues, but working ok after some sanding

Fired 400 rounds CCI mini-mag yesterday, not one single problem with Ruger 10 rounds mag..
Did you try ejecting a live round from the gun? Mine ejected fired Mini-Mag cases with no problem but when I tried to extract live rounds the extractor pulled the cartridges about 1/3 of the way out of the chamber and then they would just fall off the extractor on to the loaded mag which caused jams.

A lot of shooters don't realize that blowback guns will eject a fired case even if the extractor is faulty (or even missing). I had an 9mm AR carbine that fired fine and then extracted empty cases even thought the extractor claw was completely broken off. In fact the Beretta Jetfire pistols don't even have an extractor. They just rely on gas pressure to eject empty cases.

Check yours out. Mine is currently in for evaluation (it's been a month now) and I'm still waiting on the gunsmith's verdict for repair or replacement. Even if it's repaired I'm out nearly $40 shipping for a gun with only 20 rounds through it. Colour me unimpressed. I should have just stuck with my Derya TM-22. It's been flawless.
