Rifle calibers and hunting

I'm planing to start hunting next year and I was talking to a friend about suitable calibers for Moose and Deer. He is a hunter from Quebec.
I found a bit weird when he said my 308 was not suitable for moose unless at short range and for moose I'd need at least a 300winmag. He has a 270win for deer and a 7rum for moose. So I decided to google it later instead of arguing about something I have no experience about and found this:

So a question for the experienced hunters out there...
Is this chart exaggerated?
Or a 308 is really not suitable for Moose?
If I go hunting next year it will be in Ontario.

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks

A 308 is plenty enough for moose, and most game in North America, if you want a little more oomph, get a 7mm RM. You wont need anything bigger to do the job unless you really want to buy another rifle.

More moose, deer, elk, and bear have been taken with a 30-30 win than any other cartridge. Adequate yes. Is it the best choice for moose, probably not. You don't need a magnum anything. Pick the one that makes the most sense for the game you will be hunting and the terrain you'll be hunting in. Most likely, a 270, 308, or a 30-06 will do just fine. All are capable 300 yard performers, if you are even shooting that far. Inside 100 it makes no difference.

Absolutely a great choice. The chart is a sales gimmick. 243 I'm sure would be fine. 308 ads a lot of frontal area that makes a significant difference when hunting. No need for more powder behind that 308 slug, just use a quality bullet and enjoy some steaks and burgers.

It's good to listen to advice from many and that's why this forum is so good. If you put all your faith just one guy's advice (like the guy I met at the range today who told me his .300Wby had more "oomph" than my .500 Jeffery), you might be liable to take your .223 Cape Buffalo hunting.

.308Win is a great round for pretty much anything other than the largest African game.

The ammo for it is also quite affordable and not to mention cheaper surplus/fmj is out there so that means you can SHOOT and PRACTICE much much more then with the other bigger calibers and the recoil is much less as well...so that means you can/should be better with a .308Win vs. The many other, larger rounds for hunting that are out there.

Proof to the first part? Not calling you out but I have heard that saying for...

.30-30Win
.30-06SPRG
.303BRIT
12g
and even for the .22LR
