Of the following rifles what would be your choice for an upcoming Quebec moose hunt?

M 700 Remington 25/06 with Bushnell 2.5 - 10 X

M 96 Mauser 6.5 x 55 Swede with Nikon 4 -12 X

Parker Hale Mauser .270 with Bushnell 3 - 9 X

M 700 Remington 7 Rem Mag with Leupold 2.5 - 8 X

M 70 Winchester .375 H & H Mag with Leupold 1.75 - 6 X

Roger # 1 .416 Rigby with NECG peep sight

Marlin 1895 Cowboy .45/70 with Williams peep sight

Pedersoli Sharps .45/90 with iron sights (semi buck horn rear and long range vernier, changeable globe insert front)

Parker Hale Mauser .270 with Bushnell 3 - 9 X

M 700 Remington 7 Rem Mag with Leupold 2.5 - 8 X

Either one of these.......flat shooting with good all around optics.

Amoung the posted calibers I would suggest the 7mm reminghton Mag. Personnally I hunt mosse in québec with 300WSM, normal circumstance the moose is not very far. Have a flat trajectory caliber with apropriate big game bullet. M700 has proven to be a good rifle and so did Leupold.

Cheers,

The Swedish Mauser sounds nice, I still want to get a 6.5x55. Tied for second place with the 7mm and 270. If the Swede wears a military stock I might move them up to first for hunting purposes. Tough to choose between a PH and a good M700. On the other hand, moose hunting is the perfect excuse to get a 35 Whelen....

Swedes use the 6.5 Swede for moose all the time.

Moose aren't all that tough; the .30/30 used to be standard for moose in Northern Ontario and it did the job just fine. My point is that you don't need an elephant gun to hunt moose and I think the .416 is too much gun. The .375 is borderline overpowered. But fill yer boots; they'll all work if you do your part.

Either the 270 or 7 mag would be my choices of what you listed but wondering why no 308 or 30-06 on the list.

I'm assuming that you already have these rifles? Depending on the circumstances any of them could be used. I took my first moose with a Parker Hale .270 and my last one with a Sako 7mm STW. I switch rifles constantly but usually seem to have a 7 mm in my hand when the moose give me a chance. Just a fluke probably, and in most cases it wouldn't have made any difference. The .375 is a solid choice, just like it always is.

From your list I'd say 7mm or .375.

Just a hunch, but being as the list includes scopes; they are likely rifles he already has.

Yeah, figured that much but what I was getting at is, how can you have a hunting rifle collection that doesn't include a 308 or 30-06?
