Robarms XCR FAQ post

I know that a lot of people have taken off the original muzzle device to put something better on. Just wondering what is working for you guys? I'm looking to replace the muzzle device on xcr-l 5.56 for something that will greatly reduce muzzle rise and would greatly appreciate suggestions. Thanks , Ben

Just so you know, some if not all the comps and flash hiders are pin welded. Another brilliant American idea. If you check out YouTube they have vids on how to take it out.

As far as muzzle devices, you have to decide if you want flash hiding or compensation. There some that do both, but it's like being a Jack of all Trades. Still the Master of none.

Flash Hider I would recommend that works amazing is the ATRS, AT15 Eliminator.

Compensator I would say anything in the PWS line.
(although they claim flash suppression too, but that's not what I've wittnessed)

I put this muzzle break on, NO FLASH Hiding, PWS TTO, and its excellent IMO!
Its nicely balanced as well and does not require any tuning...

Questar has them for around $120 I think?

Here it is in action!

That's pretty sweet.
Curious but was your original flash hider pin welded? Both my 6.8mm and my 7.62x39 barrels were welded. Kind of stupid considering that's not a Canadian issue to use the muzzle device for a barrel extension to make it legal.

Yes it was welded and I slightly drilled out the weld but be careful not to hit the threads. Do not go all the way through...Really its a spot weld and with enough torque it will release. I actually got all this info in this thread before I attempted to change mine a several pages back...Lots of info here!

If your not sure or do not want to risk it I would go to a gun smith, easy job for them to do in less than 20min.

I bet you when you noticed it, your first words were the same as mine. Lol! I've done it on pinned 14.5" AR barrels I've picked up in the US, but I haven't touched my XCR yet. Some of them can be nastier than others.
So the weld is mostly surface then. That sounds like a good thing.

Oh!
Forgot to ask. Is the original comp still usable after removing it?

It really seems to reduce the muzzle rise really well! Thanks for the info guys , really appreciated. I'm going to look into ordering one and going to take the old one off for sure. I really dislike the factory fh

I have the NEA Crusader brake on my 10.5 AR and it works very well to keep the muzzle down under rapid fire.

Truthfully, the Crusader is awsome. Functions great and looks great too.

The crusader does look nice but I went with the PWS TTO because it was the exact length as the original stock A2 on the XCR-L so I did not add any extra weight or length to the rifle.

probably pretty simple question but can I just put Loctite in the screw that holds the barrel in?
fairly stupid design to put a screw there in my opinion since it always comes loose after some shooting.

it is so weird to me that I have had my XCR-L for a couple of years now and do not have these screw loosing issues but then again I know how to tighten a screw... :p

and yes you can use loctite on that screw and/or any other screw your heart desires...

X2

It's funny how these people who have never fired one before who think they know everything. I've shot alot out of mine and it doesn't seem to want to loosen either. Rock on new guy. Lol!

Most likely if that's the case you have not tightened/torqued the screw enough. No loctite necessary and if you really are not certain have it tightened with a torque wrench, 200lbs is the recommended!

I do it by hand and have put over 1000rds minimum and it never has come loose. Usually after 1000rds I do a full dis-assembly to clean my XCR. Every 300-500rds I do a basic cleaning...

Before I go to the range I always do a quick inspection and re-oil my complete Op Rod assembly and bolt carrier as well, wipe it down and then put some fresh oil. I keep it lubed and never run it dry...

I went and put 400 rounds through my xcr-l over this last long weekend , took it apart yesterday for a good cleaning and decided to inspect all of the fasteners. I did not find a single loose screw or bolt... I have yet to apply any loctite to this rifle.

I can't argue the point of 200 ft lbs of torque on the screw, but it seems like a lot to me. Barrel nuts for AR15's are torqued to 35lbs for optimum fit. Different system, but wow!

Do NOT torque to 200 ft lbs!

200 inch pounds or 16 ft lbs is the spec. See here.
