Robarms XCR-L Reliability Survey

Mine:

- Model: XCR-L . Tool less gas system, newer trigger

- Caliber: .223

- Trigger: New Style

- Round count at minor issue: ~300

- Issue: Gas block loosened because it was not tightened fully. should not happen if torqued properly.

- How many FTF/FTE: < 1% - c-product mags are terrible crap.

Total Round Count: 700

Notes :
rifle does not like prvi partisan ammo, bulged primers. not an issue with other brands. do not use anymore.
Some dented brass and trigger slap from gas setting on high (4).
All settings on gas block work fine.
New style trigger is better than some hunting rifles I've felt.

I have to say, the XCR has become much like a mini-14/30 in terms of the Internet forums. The first/early minis had problems, which soiled their reputation. Everyone and their dad knew someone that owned one and had trouble with it or couldn't hit anything. The XCR has got the same bad rap from the first couple that were in Canada I think.

I own both an XCR and mini 30, love them both.

- Model: XCR-L . Tool less gas system, newer trigger

- Caliber: .223

- Trigger: New Style

- Round count at minor issue: 200

- Issue: FTF, would not eject unfired round, had to karate chop charge handle to ejected unfired round. No problems after that.

- How many FTF/FTE: 1

Total Round Count: 1200

also noticed that fireing pin leaves a very heavy mark in the primer, I'm not sure if this is a problem or not. I mostly use american eagle, and hornady ammo. Gas setting 1. I am also more than pleased with the accuracy of the rifle. I am extremly pleased with the rifles performance.

Mine:

- Model: XCR-L . Tool less gas system

- Caliber: .223

- Trigger: old Style

- Total Round count : 1000+

- Issue: None
- How many FTF/FTE: < 1% - c-product mags are terrible crap. Changed mags and never had the issue happen again, tossed the mag in the garbage.

I bought mine, a 6.8, used and then bought a 5.56 conversion, had firing pin probs with both bolts, replaced them and no problem till the bumper cracked, I jury rigged that, finished my range session and put a new one in. I'll keep mine thank you, I don't have the round count of some of the high speed guys here, but it, as well as the 3 AR platforms I own don't cause me any real problems at all. If by some chance the feds decide to de-restrict the AR, I'd still use my XCR, short of the non ambi mag release I like the ergonomics better than the AR. I'm waiting for a few more to get sold and when someone finally decides to start hot rodding these, like the AR has been over the course of time( I'm old enough to remember the early ones we had available to us.) These things'll kick ass.

- Model: XCR-L . Newer gas system

- Caliber: .223 & 6.8 SPC (both 1:10 and 1:11 twist)

- Trigger: Currently has New Style trigger

- No issues, loctited everything at purchase

- How many FTF/FTE: 0

Total Round Count: approx 2700 .223, and about 840 6.8
accuracy with older 1:10 twist 6.8 barrel was better than newer 1:11 twist but still around 1 minute (223 accuracy around 2 minute)
Accuracy with old trigger was not consistent, new is much better

Funny how the few guys with negative comments flood a thread. One of my pals has 6 AR's of various brands, 4 are so unrelaible he wont use them anymore, the other 2 still have enough feed problems that he says he would never ever trust his life to one, pretty much shoots his SL8 exclusively.

My XCR was completely torn down immediately, cleaned, locktited and lubed. I guess I could thank the internet for that advice. At about 200 rounds I stripped it once again, cleaned and lubed it. It did not have a single issue during break in. However this time I used a very heavy lube on the hammer pivot. This caused drag on the hammer and I had blanking primers. I verified it was a lubrication issue by disassembly, re lube and repeat back and fourth with light and heavy.

Now at a total of 1300-1600 rounds, not a single issue other than 4 or 5 bob's that were due to unseated mags. This gun does get abused, it has been out in the pouring rain, -30's, and covered and I mean covered in wet clay mud. It is in fact still caked in mud from may long weekend, the barrel is a faint orange, all the screws on the gun and optics are crusting with rust.

Would I buy another...for sure. If AR's were non restricted I might have bought one instead only due to price. My pal with the 6 AR's and SL8, well he will never buy another AR and hes had many more in the past.

Why do the few despise the AR so much? My guess is because we can play rambo anywhere we want while they are stuck punching paper. You will notice that its the same 3 or 4 guys #####ing about their old style XCR's, there are no NEW complainers, but many NEW SATISFIED owners. Its been a long long time since anyone posted an issue with an XCR. Why didnt the XCR catch on in the US...Well in a country where AR's are non restricted and the XCR costs twice as much as most, what would you expect....

I don't know. I popped 1300 rounds in 4 days with a brand new stag/cmt upper and a 12 years old bushmaster lower. Lots of controlled pairs, doubles, triples and quads. Zero failure. All I did was making sure there was no packing grease and clped it.

Damn, even the bolt carrier is the semi cut with the so called non standard staking.

What is it saying? Any rifles that need to be stripped down and loctited are not designed and assembled properly.

Just like an ar, if you need to restake the gas key or the stock, it is not assembled properly.

Going to the range and look at what people do to "customize" their ARs, it makes you wonder why there are so much complaints out there. And then these rifles got passed around after their last owners have done stupid things to them......and less knowledgable buyers cannot tell.

So if the XCR is so inferior why aren't there more on the EE at good prices.. Trust me people couldn't get rid of there R22's and Sig Mosquito's when they were having issues..

Let me put this in another perspective guys. If we all never bought a car that ever had a recall we would all be driving model "T" or walking. TO loctite a few bolts and run her hard with no issues is really splitting hairs. I know a couple of other guns that are well respected as well that have had the odd problem but they are still considered an awesome firearm.

All factory Stag 4R, 12 000 rounds with Zero rifle related issues, minimal cleaning, and no tools needed as nothing has come loose/ fallen off in the last 31 months.
I will admit I had one bad primer and one failure to feed from an improperly seated mag (my bad).

RA was pushing the XCR as the replacement for the M16 FOW. I have no idea what they were thinking because I have been issued brand new C7s, C8s and M4s and nothing has fallen off them as I ran up pretty good round counts.

One of my shooting buddy have one

- Model: XCR-L . Tool less gas system

- Caliber: .223

- Trigger: new Style

- Round count total = I would say 1,500

- Issues:

The bolt would jam open. This happened a lot during break in period and still does it on rare occasion.
The bolt release is worn out already. Shove a mag or slightly tap the rifle and the bolt will slam shut by itself.

It is okay accurate at 50m. Never tried it beyond that range so I won't comment. I like the trigger, much nicer than my AR15. Forget your once fired brass as they get mangled by the deflector. There are a lot of known issues with this riffle and for the price tag, I wouldn't recommend it until they fix all the bugs.

Non restricted and take AR mags.

That is about all they have going for them here in Canada.

When the SCAR is released by the RCMP it will probably depress the XCR values, until then they are filling a niche.

I owned two XCR's in my time both .223. The first one I had problems with the bolt catch falling apart (had to loctite the thing). As well I had to run it at setting 4 for it to work properly.

The second one was flawless no adding loctite and no reliability problems.

Needless to say I sold both. I just prefer the AR also the xcr is heavy and I didn't find I used them off range to warrent the extra weight. For non res goodness I switched to rebarreled CX4 storms.

Can you post a pic? Most XCRs I've seen leave a pretty significant primer "donut". Some pierce primers.

Sorry, took me a while to upload pics. Exact same ammo, one round fired from my XCR (the round with the ejector mark on it) and the other round from my remington bolt action.
