Rossi Ranch Hand full-size stock G/B ~ UPDATE - Feb 15/2013

I got my Ranchhand last week.
44 magnum...and yes it's going to need the full length stock to properly shoot that puppy.
I have been shooting 180 gr Remmy factory stuff and it's a handful. I would imagine Hornady Leverlution 240 gr stuff is going to be downright bronc'y. It's tempting to de-cap that Hornady stuff and downsize the load a Tad.
Honestly, I don't know that I'd want to shoot 44 mag in a pistol, maybe I'm a pussy but this round is a handful out of a 12" bbl let alone a 6-8" bbl.
BTW OP I've sent a PM concerning business with O/L/S. And thanks for your initiative on this matter too.

I did both. I sh*t and then contacted Rich and sent him the money.

I can't wait to get the new stock. I am just going with a plain hard butt stock. I have several Boyd's spares. I will just use one of them. This is gonna raise some eyebrows at hunt camp.

I am using 240 gr JHP rounds and they work nice. I may try a tang mount peep sight as I am still hitting way high( about 8-12 inches. I can't be sure until I get a stock on it to be sure it is not just me aiming it wrong.

Bad news & good news...

Bad news is, slight delay in production.

Broke a major cast part on the machine (more like shattered).

Found a new one but it is being shipped out of the states, 7 to 10 days unless it looks interesting to the border gods.

So sorry for the added delay but it gives another week on the deadline at least.

Good news is, we met the stock-makers deposit requirement.

The (deposit) count is now 11 !

;)

Wow, am I ever starting to get anxious...

I don't think I've had this much anticipation since Xmas '82.

I wanna start blastin some 'yotes !

It's currently my only non-restricted.

congratulations. I wish I would've seen this thread earlier.
I put a full stock on my ranch hand I have only got out once this year hunting deer.
We were hunting in a swampy area everyone else had trouble keeping their rifles out of the muskeg.
with my little carbine I had no problems at all.
I love the full stock on the little rifle . But now I want a laminated set good work Boomer
(I phoned your stock maker I am going to send the deposit tomorrow I'm still going to get in on the group buy Yahooo! )

I'm still going to get in on the group buy. Yahooo!

Good stuff ! ;)

I'll be starting a dedicated thread as soon as I receive my rifle back, for all those getting stocks.

Sort of a review/show-off the guns, kinda-thread... For full-stock Ranch Hands /Mares Legs.

Happily waiting for my stock set for my .45 Colt. :jerkit:
No worries yet, cause I have my .357 Baby Rossi to play with in the
meantime. ;)

Question for 44 mag owners...ever feed 44 special or Russian through your Ranchhand?
Postman brought a 100 lot of Starline 44 Russian brass to me today. Be a lot more sedate than 44 Mag.
Might get the GF to try it if loaded with some mild Russian loads.
Working on a reduced load for 44 mag but development takes a while ( dad's doing it).

My amigo gave me a 100 rounds of .44 special brass to try in my Rossi .44 16" Trapper.
Yes, they do fucntion ok, but the only problem with them I can see is that if you shoot a bunch of the shorter length .44 specials through a .44 magnum chamber, you
run the risk of forming a lead ring in the chamber if using lead bullets that is.

If the chamber is not properly cleaned of this deposit, and a full pressure .44 magnum
jacketed round is fired after, then you'll get a pressure spike that may damage the rifle
and or yourself if the load is a hot one.
To be safe as well as thrifty, just use .44 mag. brass and reduced loads rather than
mixing short and long brass loads.

Folks have blown up .454 mag revolvers in this same scenario by using .45 Colt lead
ammo, then firing factory or full house jacketed loads after, without cleaning the chambers first.

Talked to him Sunday, he had just got back from a gun-show (selling, not buying).

He hadn't got the part as of Sunday, but expected it Monday.

Even if he got it Tuesday, I'm sure he's busy setting-up and/or starting the run.

It seemed to be his first priority (getting the machine going)...

I PM'd him yesterday actually, in anticipation of people asking for updates. Just waiting for a reply.

:)

Good to see things are happening on the stock sets.
Meanwhile, I've had time to fit new Marble's sights to my
.45 Ranch Hand as well as make a brass follower for 'er.

I just finished a re-shape of the lever down at my buddy's fab shop.
It is now a mid-sized lever that is ideal for a gloved hand.
This job was easy to perform by cold forming the lever after the cut,
then TIG welding to finish.

Total time to do this work was 10 minutes in my amigo's talented hands.
All I had to do was point out where to bend, and away he went.
My job now is to put on the movie Rough Riders and blend out the
weld and touch-up the bluing to finish 'er up.:D

Sorry, I'm not taking orders to redo levers, as my amigo is booked solid
on big jobs, and I'm gonna be to busy with other projects.
