Ruger 10-22's......?

if you want a good version/year for a 10/22 id say get anything from the 80/90's your be good to go.
they really didnt change much from the 70-2000's until they switched the trigger groups over to the plastic ones from the metal.

i personally find the quality a little better on the 80'90's ones.
they were not as mass produced as they seem to be today, a little more care and attention on the assembly line.

really though, the gun hasnt changed over the years.
the last couple years they have put out a lot of different versions to soak up sales.
target, take down, mannlincher, different paint jobs ect ect ect.

just get a good solid 80's one and your golden.
i have probably around 10 of them and my 1984 one is my gopher gun still - its proven itself with over 100k rounds down the pipe.

i dont get the "i wanna build a $2000 10/22" vibe from ya so stay away from that area of the pool.
the real desirable thing i find with the 10/22 is that you can buy one and your good to go or you can swap out whatever you want and you can find the parts pretty much everywhere. want a bull barrel, you can get them in any length and thickness. ect ect ect.

now, that said, i did pick up the 50th Anniversary Edition one and its nice.
i sent the trigger group off to have it gone over by a gunsmith who specializes in tweaking them.
but other then that the gun is stock and its a trooper.
lots of plastic on it though.
plastic stock, plastic trigger group....
(actually you have a RAR dont ya, its the same stock as is on the RAR)

Asking people for quick answers leads to poor responses. How about you try an actual rimfire website. One deticated to what youre asking questions about.
Again with 16k posts you should know your stuff!
Imo a 10/22 isnt for you if you have to ask about it by now.
If you were a newbie it would be different.
What a snob!!! Get a grip!

Just a random info kinda note: When people talk of feeding issues etc with 25 rd red lips mags etc, I've discovered all of my problems were traced to resting the gun on the mag like a monopod, pushing it up against the bolt. The upside is, I've been given free 25 rd mags because they didn't feed properly! Runnin fine til this very day, layin down a federal hailstorm against an infernal plague of gopher at work. Ssssh

Nice to see this 10/22 thread back on track and not yet another thread I ignored due to a certain members idiotic posts.

Anyway, I remember years ago in the early 80's a friend of the family from a farm a mile away had a 10/22 it had never been cleaned and always shot failure free and accurate, back then couldn't afford a gun like that nor the ammo to feed it, he would let me borrow it and it was a real treat to shoot scope and all from the open sights model 60 of dads I used. That gun was always a legend with me and my brothers, maybe he just got a lucky one, but growing up on a farm shooting guns was a regular past time and that gun had a lot of rounds through it.

I've aways had the opinion the older ones were better made, even the one I picked up years later in synthetic and stainless with more metal parts has a better feel to it then newer ones I've handled, I've never had a problem with mine using stock mags from subs to stingers.

My 10-22 bought new in the late 60s ( 1968 ? ) has been a faithful, reliable rifle.
It caught my eye at the time because I had never seen one with full wood and the dealer offered me a spare mag and a brick of 22 lr to go with the deal.
Its never had a scope mounted simply because for my shooting I never saw the need for one, minute of Grouse is good enough.
The only single modification I have done to it was to put a nylon recoil buffer in years ago to replace the metal pin.
Would I buy it again .... in a heartbeat..

probably still here with a new user name

Just look for the noob who talks down to you and acts like he knows it all because he built the lightest 10/22 ever.

I have an easy 50,000 rounds out of my childhood 10/22. It went 14,000 rounds before I ever took it apart to clean it.
I modified it untill it was a pile of original parts and put it all back together stock a few years back. It still sees regular use and was just out with me on my last quad trip.
While I have a appreciation for old, stock 10/22s, it is important to note that they are hands
down the best rimfire to modify. You can get parts from a million sources and build everything from a pistol, sbr, carbine, bush gun, folder, take down target rifle and ar clone.
Suddenly you have six 10/22s

Do you know when you really start to love your 10/22?

It's when you've owned and fired some of the semi-auto rimfires that came before it! Constant jams, finicky ammo selection, accuracy problems, takes forever to clean, etc, etc, etc. I can see how and why the 10/22 rose to dominance. The only other semis of its vintage or older that can hold a candle to it seem to be the Marlin 60, the Browning SA22 and maybe a select few others. Not saying the 10/22 was the best built out there because it's not. But just talking purely about reliability and shootability the 10/22 reigns supreme for a reason.

That would be a dumb move, if he is caught it would likely result in a permanent ban. Then again :bump: ;)

He is for sure it didn't take long to figure out he is 15-22. With the rude comments in his pws thread. Classic little airwolf, he just can't help himself.

I agree. I went out this afternoon on my way home from work and holy smokes the gophers are out full force! Went for a quick little walk down the fence line with 100 rnds of cci mini mags and finished the box off in 15 min with no ftf or fte whatsoever out of my DAR 22 build. About 10 dead gophers, a few shot up frozen cow plops and back to the truck. Best drive home from work of 2016 so far.
