Wow! I don't know if that play is acceptable or not, but I will tell you the one I have doesn't rattle like that. {the trigger was really sloppy}

WOW! Just watched the video. I've watched other video reviews of this gun on Youtube and none rattled as much as this one. Gun looks great but has horrible build quality. You're IPSC friends would naturally be hard to please but they are very correct this time. It's loose enough to suspect something is broken and call safety into question. Very badly fitted guns wear faster than well-fitted guns. Fire 1,000 rounds through this gun and it will be much worse, wear unevenly and eventually fail. I've never seen a rattle like that when you held the slide and shook the frame. Send it back if you can, you will never be happy with this gun and never be able to sell it. No excuse for this with today's methods - shame on Ruger. Thanks for your help.

Now what do we know about the SIG 1911 and 1911 Traditional?

Wow, I've seen a couple other videos on the rattling but I've never see one rattle as loose as yours. I don't own one myself to compare but I may wait this one out and maybe Ruger will release a 2nd gen. If this is a concern, you can send it off to a gunsmith to have it tightened up ie slide and the trigger will need to be replaced with a wider one and fitted. The grip safety you can do yourself if you're comfortable dismantling your gun but removing the sear spring and bending the right leaf back a bit. A cheap work around I saw for the trigger is to bend the bow a hair just behind the trigger but if that is a long term solution, probably not.

Found this site (6 parts) with detail info on the SR1911, including disassembly etc...

Thanks for posting the video.

Here's someone vid with the loose trigger, similar to the daRRski's.

Not good at all. Seems to be very loose. It ain't acceptable by my standards. I'd send it back to Ruger and hope they do something about it. They don't really have a warranty in place but I should hope they would want to help rectify their problem. You shouldn't have to put more money into the Ruger taking it to a gunsmith in order to get the fit it should have out of the box.

Forget trying to fix this thing. Why should he put a dollar more into it. He didn't buy it as a "build gun" and it will probably void the warranty. I'ts hard to believe there could be such variances between ok tight and rattle as we are hearing about with this gun. Ruger is either way overbuilding this thing to capitalize on the revenue from a new and popular gun, letting out failed seconds, sending seconds to Canada or has no QC at all. Some is very wrong here. A new gun that loose will pound itself into the repair shop fast.

Forget sending it to Ruger it will be troublesome, they'll say it's within acceptable build standards, try to fix it and wreck something else. Get it back to the seller. Let him fight Ruger, he should never have sold it. Only when enough go back this way will Ruger tighten-up.

So the moral of the story is buy your Ruger SR1911 in person or if you have a very good rep with an online dealer, have them pick one out for you. That sucks.

Buy a 1911 from a manufacturer that specialize in 1911s. Personally, while that slop may not scream quality...I'm sure it would shoot ok and last a lifetime. Ruger makes reliable firearms...never really seen anything I would call high quality from them. I've had a mini 14 that went bang but barely could hit a barn door. Ever see the cast grip frames on thier revolvers..or rinky dink trigger components in the 10/22 or mkii pistols....they cast and stamp everything they can. Not saying that this affects function or how long the gun will last, but it does affect accuracy and tends to mean loose fitting and cut corners. The things Ruger does well I like...rimfire pistols, single action revolvers, 10/22....all good stuff. Centerfire rifles and pistols, and thier d/a revolvers I'm not a fan of....for a variety of reasons. I was hoping to see a well made tight and accurate American made 1911 for under $800....but again its a centerfire pistol and not something I think Ruger has ever done a good job with.

it will be pretty difficult to find something that looks and feels as good as this pistol for the $$...too bad the quality control sucks....should I ask store to find me a good one...or just give up on it all together and go with something else ?

Don't shoot it and don't accept it. Don't do anything that could be construed as acceptance or you'll be into a "repair" situation. Get your money back and pay a little more for something that is proper. How will the shipping and registration reversal work if the dealer takes it back? Anything fitted that badly will have other "troubles" with function too.

STI Spartan may be an option for you. You can find them selling for $750 at most places. The finish isn't as nice to look at as the Ruger being stainless but the fit is as tight as your gonna get. After all, it is a custom hand fitted 1911. Plus STI has a lifetime warranty. If you can find a decent fitted Ruger I would go for it but it may prove difficult due to the shortages.

Still waiting for email back from store...and yes you are right ....might have to save up for something little better..like those lol

Yes I think so. I want to see this come out right. I'm tired of getting beaten on and having to take it just because we have to order and register etc.
Please keep us posted on this forum thread. I want to know the outcome. BTW how will the registration get undone/reversed?
Thanks.
