There used to be a lot of people like that here, but the endless banning of everything has made their numbers dwindle.
Pistol shooters always used to get #### from the TR crowd down at Bisley because they decried us as "cowboys", then handguns were banned and the NRA nearly went bust as a result, because of the lack of range use. Suddenly they're not whining anymore about pistol shooting now that range fees and NRA membership fees have skyrocketed. "Bring it back, bring it back!"
The same with military-style rifles, shooters always used to get #### for having those, but now that semi-auto centrefires are banned, it's dawned on the "oh they're so bad" crowd that the only difference from their guns is the physical appearance.
The field shooters used to steer well clear of target shooters like me, but now we're all using bolt-action rifles and the like, just with Aimpoints and larger magazines and the like on them, and it's getting a bit too close for comfort for them. Semi-automatic shotgun for IPSC compared to a semi-automatic shotgun for clay pigeons... and the difference is...?
The fact of the matter is that people who look down their noses at pistol shooters and people using modern semi-automatic rifles are simply out of touch. Hunting is decling as a sport, the growth in shooting is in target shooting with pistols as people move from rural to urban areas.
We're the mainstream now - you've got nothing to be ashamed of.
