Russian SKS45 long thread.

Got my SKSs a few days ago and just got the chance to take some pics to post up :) Still waiting for my case of ammo tho so I can't even take my shooter out. Sigh.

I bought 2 hand selects from Frontier. What I got in the mail looks like a unissued 54 Tula no refurb marks or anything. All matching serials with no forced matching and birch stock. It looks like it's been test fired? I cleaned it some and ran a patch through and the patch came out clean.

The 53 I don't have pics of since its a forced matched. All the parts are refurbed pretty much with laminate stock.

No pitting or rust on either of them so they are both in great shape. I'll shoot the refurb and keep the 54 packed up tight in the safe :)

I am waiting for my order to arrive from Frontier for the SKS, a SVT40 and scope mount for the SVT. I am praying that my handpick is like your 54. What a beauty. Too bad their Visa went down and my order is delayed as I put $1000 on Visa to cover the order and the post office will not accept Visa on COD. Frontier says credit cards will be back online Wed. and maybe then I can get my rifles. I originally placed my order last July. Patience is a virtue, I hope I am rewarded for my patience. Marlin says the SVT's he has are in very good condition, but only one left, after I spoke for mine.
Off topic, but I have to share with you, I am working on my restricted licence because a guy at work's father passed away a year ago and now he tells me that his Dad had a WWII "take home" Walther P38 with spare clip engraved with the Sargents name, ammunition, a 12 guage, 22, and more that he needs to pass to someone and I am the likely candidate, as we have talked about the Russian firearms. All he wants is to be rid of them and to a good home FREE OF CHARGE. nada, no money. I am an old IPSC shooter #058, but quit the club 20 years ago sold off all my collection of 58 handguns and let all my licences lapse including the auto licence. Even had to write the safety course to get the new PAL. So gotta write the restricted as well. Not sure how long it will take to get the restricted, but I have a friend with the licence that will aquire the Walther and hold it for me till I am certified. Another "Urban Legend" story. The find of a lifetime.
And dumping into one posting, happened on Wolf's Den outside of Barrie (ESSA County) who had a bunch of Norinco 7.62X39 NON corrosive silver box (steel case). I bought 3 boxes at $10.00 per box, found out how good they are, went back next weekend and bought more, they asked how many?, I said everything you got.

I'm hearing some talk about shipments was there different shipments and how can you tell which one you SKS came from. Will it matter where you purchased the SKS from Ive seen some nice models and a few dogs so if any one has some info please post slipp

Ther appears to be two suppliers to Canada. The main difference seems to be how they limit the magazine to 5 rounds. One, as I am on my other computer, so I cannot be sure of the names IZH? places a bar in the magazine to limit, the other welds onto the magazine which defaces it. IZH? is the prefered supplier.

While there is nothing illegal about a gun rack in the truck window, and carrying a rifle there, its still a really good way to get pulled over by over anxious police (in southern alberta anyway) I know several people who have been detained by the police and sherrifs for doing this, coming back from trips to the range, or hunting. One of these was the result of some do-gooder calling 911 to report a friend "driving with a firearm in the window", which resulted in him having 3 patrol cars pulling him over and question him about why he had his 306 hanging in the gun rack.

Advice from an old gun owner, "keep your mouth shut", don't tell your neighbours, people at work and never get into a bar argument and say "I am going to get you" when you are a gun owner. I have seen instances where a fellow club member had to pay $28,000 in lawyer fees, to get back his licence and guns when his ex-wife wanted to "get even" and said to the police "I am afraid of him, he owns guns". I don't want to offend any of my fellow "real Canadians", but you gotta be out of your cotton pickin' mind to display your firearms in public.

Anybody else hear of any " New " outlets, ---- that are selling these Russians ???

Yes, there is a great gunstore in Port Perry Ontario that is awaiting their shipment. I was in there this week. A whole new chance to get that "hand pick". No word on prices, but since Frontier is "sold out", I may be dropping by for a second SKS.

I will be awaiting your dog.... lol.
Oh, and I took out my Russkie today, shot like a dream. Sure is a lot harder to shoot without a scope tho. lol

My neighbours friend said listen to that little dog, Your rottwieller would eat it for breakfast. He could not see the other two 90 lb. dogs that were not barking that is part of Chico's pack of 3 standing along side of him....laughs, my Husky German Shepperd and my Border Collie Hound. Beware of hidden menace.

Ok, I know you are all gonna hate it but this is my new shell casing retriever. He is only 5.5 weeks here.

My chis have a heeler of their own. It works out well except the time she bit Diego on the head. That was bad. I never leave them alone...
